How do I play samples normal while in PATTERN SELECT ?

I dont know if I am as clear, I mean to record parts of song and play them in PATTERN SELECT, but while I am doing that , id like to go to new bank for instance and play pads as I would outside of PATTERN SELECT, So while it is playing my Patterns I could play samples as little bits and snippets .Sorry If I am unclear

For instance Kim is playing MPC1000 But I am sure it is able to do on SP, He plays the patterns yet leaves to new mode to play samples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-9TrThj ... re=related

Just leave Pattern Select mode by pressing the button again. The current pattern keeps playing, and you can freely select sample banks and bang the pads. If you're fast enough, you can quickly go into pattern select again, select a new pattern, switch back and continue banging the pads without any noticable gap in your performance
