Syncronized pattern recording from daw?

Hi people,
Im just minding if its possible to sync, the pattern recording with my start/stop midi signal from logic?
I've already synced my ultrabeat with the 404, made some templates, so ive got the adjustments with my samplebanks easily accesible in each new project.

Now I've got a lots of patterns made in my Computer compunding the tracks.
Do i really have to press rec at start and and of each pattern? Or is there some way to sync the pattern rec , with logics play?
Ive read the manual entirely a few times but i could not made out any reference.
My goal would be, to get my already made songs frm the pc in the roland to get my music mobile. Im aware that i could easily record the entire songs as one single pattern and would have acces to each instrument playng, but short patterns wuold give me much more variation posibilities.....
So hopefully there is someone out to help me with my cuestions.

No, MIDI start/stop messages only work for pattern play (check page 47). Not shure if there's a work around, maybe someone can come up with something.

No you can't do that on the 404.
But why don't you just export patterns with Logic, then import into the 404? Logic exports perfectly cut loops/patterns, it would work like a charm.
Also you would get the best possible transfer quality.

@ lonestar, I understand the alternative way would be, to export the patterns not in midi but instead in fully assembled wave patterns(samples)?
If so, how would i get the very confortable, pattern sync function? Can I play samples in a pattern like way, to play next sample automatically if the actual sample finished?

@ sharpmotif, do you meansomeone is working on a software aplication to translate (if needed), and import patterns as .bin files into 404?
I guess it could be a nice project for this forum, mabe someones out here with some knowledge about programming or so.... or we could send a sketch to roland corp.?

Yes and no.

ModuLR was/is working on something like this for the 404SX and said that maybe it could work for the regular 404 too.

What I was trying to say though is that maybe there was a way to start pattern play and then after that start recording on top of that pattern - but after reading the manual once again I don't think that's actually possible.

Now do you want to sync your 404 to Logic or what? I thought you wanted to get the music onto your 404 to take with you everywhere?

If you have the exported PATTERNS from your computer imported on the 404, they aren't PATTERNS anymore but SAMPLES. Then you can go and sequence them like every other sample. So if you have, say, a bunch of 4 bar loops at 120bpm, you can just set tempo on the 404 accordingly and record a 16bar pattern playing four of your samples right after another. Just don't forget quantise.

HMmm, let me explain, I made some template in ultrabeat, with the same samples on the same notes, like in the 404, I made, lets say a virtual 404 in logic . If I play some note in ultrabeat it will play the same note in the 404 via midi.
Now i have lots of patterns alredy done in logic. I make the patters in ultrabeat just to be exactly on time, I just change the output in logic for an midi out and logic is playing the same patterns in the 404. Now I want to record this patterns directly from the computer into my 404. So I thought it would be fine just to start pattern recording in the 404, with my pc sequenzer.
But i sadly realized thats not possible.
So i guess i will have to press to record each pattern pressing rec start stop on my 404. As Im doing music with about 180 BPM, its quite difficult to press the buttons perfectly synced.
This is the point because I wantet to midi control the pattern rec, function.
As this is not possible I guess I have to slow down the BPM just for recording them. I think this will make the job more easy, but its not far the fun as it is in original velocity and take much more time, because of this I was looking for maybe some software aplication to export my patterns like .bin files for the 404, what would make it lots faster......

this might work if i understand what you're doing and what you want to have...
you got your midi pattern made in ultrabeat and your drum sounds on the 404, right? so when you hit play on the computer it plays the sounds off the 404?
run the audio from the 404 into logic on a new audio track thats lined up with your ultrabeat midi track, it should generate a perfectly on time loop of the 404 drum sounds playing the ultrabeat midi pattern. then save and export that drum loop from logic into your 404 compact flash card. let me know if that works for you

Sorry for that late reply.

To conclude the post i will reply how i solutioned this question.

Dman5000, sorry but i wanted to keep the oneshot instruments as oneshots for using them previously to create other songs with the same instruments, so i didn't want to record the hole drumline as one sample....Also the option to switch samples seamless is not given on the pads, that is my reason to make the drumlines as patterns.

First try was to record the hole songs as one pattern, but aaaaarrrrrrghhhh, just can record up to 99 ticks, so even more work to be done with an already finished song, another deception, but hey lets keep it up, as i already own this little bastard and i didnt wnat to have it laying around useless, so....

Actally i recorded the basic drumlines as variation patterns, to be able to use them in other songs, same instruments but diferent variations, then i went forward to copy this patterns and insert the other instruments (samples).....

Just had to hit the record button as much as was necesary to get it right on time hahahahaa, as i had to record it piece by piece, it took me lots of time to get it right on, but finally i did it.
I'm just thinking that a midi signal dedicatet for remote record would make this things muuuuuuuuch faster, and here im not talking about hours but months, in my case hahahaha.

But finally i got the songs note for note recorded, and have full controll about every single instrument and note, to change it on the road or where ever, with out depending of my DAW to make small changes.

Damn RAW, I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. I at most just use my MPK 49 (velocity purposes) I did the same thing on a previous song, and just used pro-tools for a Velocity Sensitive advanced Quantized Back Drop.

Is there a wireless or battery operated velocity pad solution that doesn't depend on USB or Wire's, other than MPC-500..Cheaper?

So I suppose it is just going to be wait, record, repeat?
