Hey there SP-fam, I've been busy jamming with this girl who has an amazing voice, I could gush for hours about how great she sounds... But I won't.

Anyway, we've finished 2 proper songs already + 1 alternate version. Really stoked with the results too, its been a real lesson in songwriting. Sure there's imperfections, but that's what keeps music interesting. Hopefully this is the start of a long & fruitful collaboration.

Was also wondering: has anyone else here tried working with singers/MCs in the past? Plus is calling this trip hop degrading these songs?

i'm on a remix project for a french rapper a friend of mine. soonly i will post this. it's curious to work with someone else's voice anyway.

i think that if we think about massive attack, portishead and tricky, for me the are no problems at all...
but i think also that your tracks you showed are more soulful and "modern" (the sounds you used and the use of the voice too) than the common idea of trip hop we got. for me it's a good point, this.

Hey cheers man!

The way we did those songs was I'd give her a finished beat/instro & she'd write some lyrics, come 'round to mine & record her vocals over the beat it with my recording setup. I'd then rebuild the track to fit her lyrics & mix it down. She's about to move cities & she doesn't even own a computer or recording gear (but she's committed to getting some) so we'll prob be doing a few road trips each time one of us gets an idea finished. Which is cool, recording face-to-face beats over the web any day.

Looking forward to hearing your stuff with the rapper too! Let me know when its ready, hey.

cool way to record other voices. i agree, is better when we are face to face with the other person (singer).
