Yeah man, I've been drawing and writing my own comics since 7yrs old.

The thing is to make ish pop in ppl's minds. Don't bore the reader with excessive details, just get to the point in a short and sweet manner as possible. They'll get the idea.

And no matter what you write, let it be what you experienced or some real shit you know about, no one can tell that story but YOU. And people know whats from the heart and whats made up in the mind. Be it sci-fi to autobiography, you can write whatever you want.

Good luck and peep that movie with Sean Connery!!!

thx man... ive always been up on writing since i was young... sooo much that i almost failed the third grade because of it and was kinda forced to put the pen down... why no one took notice was bizarre since i always had the most creative joints in class( and im not big up'n myself either) but that shit couldve been a product of the hood i grew up in and ppl thinking that i either had to do sports(im 6/3 and was always the tall dude in class) or be a doc or some shit... never the creative parts like art or writing... so im out to reclaim what i lost... and yes i did see it and that shit was dope... especially the mural at the end... i think it was a tats cru mural...

Yeah man, same here except I'm 6'0". Because I couldn't get down with the other classes, teachers would call me wasted talented. But damn, if you see a child excelling in an art, fertilize that talent, help him out and try to get him into the proper schools that can nourish those abilities. At those times, to me it seemed like only special kind of kids got recommended for those schools... I don't wanna get into that because then I'll just get angrier.

Do what you gotta do, nowadays you can write your own novels and publish them yourself without a huge publisher to skim the profits. Kinda like the indie scene for music, but its books.

my friend considers himself a writer, he goes between a lot of projects. he started a blog so he can always have something to keep him writing without any pressure. he also hooked up with a local director to help with script writing and that stuff.

hey niq. i'm a professional writer (no jokes) and have been for awhile. if you have some specific questions, feel free to send me a PM.

my biggest tip is:

think of writing as a craft, not an art. the longer you sit around waiting for the muse / inspiration to strike, the longer it takes to be a good writer. force yrself to write every day regardless of whether you are 'feeling it' or not.

just sit down and turn stuff out. doesn't have to win awards. doing stuff regularly builds up yr abilities. you learn to cut down yr words, get yr ideas across more clearly. a blog is a good way to do that. so is a journal. so is just endless word docs on yr computer. set a daily goal, hit the goal.

there's aaaaaall sorts of stuff to learn, but being a solid writer really starts with that.

again, send me a pm if you have questions. some good tips in this thread otherwise.

ohhhshitman... that'll help out alot... what you and ill green spoke helps cuz ive had the biggest problem wrapping my hands/ head around this... ive got a story that i am working on that is really original in idea... it just lacks a solid plot so writing some shorts based around the story will help... plus i think i should dig deeper in the subjects that im getting my ideas from... ive got my work cut out for me... i jus needbetter structure...

again thanks man...

Yeah, but as a professional writer, you obviously don't have to 925!

But I'd try to drop the fear of this being inevitable for any kind of job. It's not. ;)

I don't have a very good attention span either, but whenever I find things that really interest me, I get a healthy dose of insta-focus if you know what I mean. It won't last forever, heck it might not last more than 3 hours at a time, but I can definitely get many things done.

When it comes to true inspiration, there's no way to really force yourself into 'the zone', but one very useful method of creating a more detailed bigger picture is trying to get an outline done whenever you do get that wave of inspiration.

After that all you need is to drop the idea that you shouldn't scrap stuff you've previously thought of, it's good for ideas to evolve even if you take out half of what you had before.

There's no way knowing what the crowd or in this case readers would expect / want / favor anyway. Writing also has a learning curve as much as any other job or profession. It makes sense to read a lot of books as well to see how other writers cope with plot-twists and all kinds of writing issues.
