ok, PLEASE HELP - my sp-303 adapter exploded!

Post by leftcoast »

alright y'all

my sp-303 from ebay just arrived.
it came with the sampler itself and its ACI-120C adapter.

Now, basically, as soon as I plugged it in, the adapter itself started making a weird buzzing noise, and then after about 15 seconds of turning the 303 on, the adapter itself started smoking and sparking.

eeeek!
quickly flicked everything off in a panic.

now, i'm assuming then this means the adapter is busted, but i'm really really stressed that the 303 could've been damaged and might not work at all :( :( :(

but, i need to find a new adapter, to test it with. argh!

how do i get new adapters for the 303? I've got a 404, will that work with the 303?

please help! :(

I'm pretty sure the 404 adaptor will work, any adaptor will work as long as you match the voltage and match or exceed the amps. The 303 uses 9v 1amp. I bought one for my 303 at guitar center, but I'm sure I overpaid. Good luck!

yeah just check the voltage and amps... I've used the SX adapter on the 303 with no problems tho, but still you should check to make sure. If you decide to use some other adapter, make sure the polarity is right.

ok, another quick question.

First of all, the SP-404 cable worked! Yessss... now, I have to find a replacement anyway, so I can have both running.

I live in Australia, all the SP's I have bought have come from the states, including this new one I just received today. I use very good quality international adapters to plug them in (PS: the reason why the adapater from the latest 303 is not because of the fact I plugged it in via an adapter to an Australian wall wart, it was definitely to do with the adapter itself. It was in very bad condition anyway.)

So, my question is, if I live in Australia, would I still have to order a power cable from the states, to plug the 303 in, or would it be possible to plug in Australian power cable into it, if the 303 is from America?

I'm not very good with these electrical things.

many thanks.

Hey man, the plug on the back of the SP-404/SP-303 is a very standard connection type, it does not matter which country you are in.

Go into dick smiths or jaycar or somethin like that, pick yourself up a 240VAC (standard wall power in aus) -> 9VDC power supply.. They make ones with various curent output - as said before you need the same amount of Amps/milliAmps) as the original one or MORE current than the original.

you will get a bunch of different plugs that go on the non-wall end, one will definitely fit the SP.. The direction you put the plug on will determine what the ring/tip polarity is - you want negative tip, positive ring. (the tip is the 'inside'-most bit.

If you want to spend more money get regulated instead of unregulated... BUT unregulated is all I've ever used on anything and its fine.

should cost you $20-$35, much cheaper than getting a brand-name one from the music company.

This information applies to any music/other equipment that has a DC voltage input in the back.. you just need to match the voltage for whatever device it is.

My power broke too, so I use the one from my Nintendo Entertainment System. No joke.
