Re: Compatible Compact Flash Cards
I recently bought three SanDisk 2GB Ultra cards, and two of them didn't work, so I returned them all in search of Ultra II cards (which is what I am using now and it works fine). I thought that it was unlikely to receive two bad cards in the same order, so I assumed that they just weren't compatible.
Now I ordered three more Ultra II and received three Ultra cards, and the company said that they were the same thing.
Has anyone had success with using the SanDisk 2GB Ultra CF cards in their sp-555?

2GB Sandisk Ultra II 15MB/s - bought three and they all work fine (believe it or not it was actually my SP-555 that was faulty). Last time I checked amazon and the like only had the Ultra version and not the Ultra II, also didn't find any info on the Sandisk site to clarify if there's actually a difference between the two.

That's interesting sharpmotif, how could you tell your SP was faulty? Did it not work with any card, or not at all?

Lights started blinking sometimes for no reason but other than that everything worked fine (be it sampling/resampling/importing/exporting/whatever).
Doesn't happen with the new unit (I'm using the same three cards).
(Plus: I had a perfectly working 404 and a faulty 1GB Dane-Elec card before, so I can tell it's a different thing.)
Try to check the read/write speed of the cards, I think some are like too slow for the SP-555.

Re: Compatible Compact Flash Cards
I just received 2 new SanDisk Extreme III CF cards, and so far they work wonderfully!
My Ultra II is still pumpin along well, but they seem to be very hard to find.
-Just a tip for anyone lookin for new cards-

Re: Compatible Compact Flash Cards
I'm sitting here with three very useless SanDisk Ultra II 15 mb/s SD cards.
They are all too small. Can I get a converter for SDCFH to these? Why are they smaller? This sucks I bought them all with the sp-555 in mind. Guess I should have just got one.

maelstrom99,
SD cards I think work in the newer SP 404 SX, but for the SP 555 and the old 404, you need Compact Flash cards of 2/1 GB or less respectively.
I don't think that converters will work either, pretty sure they have to be the actual card. never tried though... I didn't even know they existed for SD-CF
hope that helps. I know these Compact Flash cards are getting harder and harder to find

Re: Compatible Compact Flash Cards
I use the following cards with my Roland SP-555:
32MB Akai "Bonus Track" card (got with my MPC1000)
2GB SanDisk ultra II
2GB SanDisk blue/red design (original)
2GB Roland M-2G
The SanDisk original card will not work on boot, but if you eject & reinsert the card, it will work fine.
