My 404 Beat Tape

Post by Rhua »

Yo finally, it's done. I've spent the last weeks arranging my first SP beat tape. SP only. Just my samples collection, my SP and a few corrections with Audition to get all tracks to approximately the same volume.

This is my first attempt at building songs completely around the SP. The only other time I do so is in the SP Arena ;)

Check it and spread it if you feel so:

I'd be very thankful for every advice or suggestion or whatever comes to your mind when you hear this, I'm curious how others feel about these tracks even if they might not feel it :)

Peace.

great sounds all the way through... really liked all the samples you used... like how you multiple snares and kicks in each track. the whole tape had an rjd2, prefuse 73, art of noise, sort of flavor to it.
constructively speaking, and without knowing what you were going for, i thought the drums sounded a little stiff, too quantized at times.
but again, if that what's you were going for, cool.
thanks for the DL, keep up the good work.

Yo, thanks for checking and the kind words guys!

Most often I took 12 drum and percussion sounds and 12 other samples to work on a new track to get some more diversity rather than just picking a hihat, snare and kick.
You're quite right about the drum work FF1, I too feel that the drums have always been my weakest spot, there's maybe just two or three parts in this joint where I didn't use a classic one-two beat. I'm trying to improve that by doing a bit live-drumming on the SP to come up with some fresher rhythms for the next tape :).

And no, that buzz is just some instrument I put the ring-mod effect on ;)

Anyways, glad you like that stuff :o

Thanks *g* I'm doing all my artworks myself with Photoshop. Initially I wanted to use this one as the cover for my next album but I figured it wouldn't be worth the wait and I'd do some other stuff for that one :)
