hey guys

i got an sp 404sx in January, altho i havent had much time to play around with it.

ive fallen in love with the bpm looper, among other effects, in which case, im wondering how/whats the easiest way...to record my existing tracks/mixes into the sp while applying effects? for example, is there any way i can record a live set that i do from the sp? not sure if im explaining it correctly, im just not sure what else i need...

help!

thanks in advance

one love,

Welcome to the forum Elaquent, guessing from your sound I'd say your coming from software like ableton or reason. Your best bet if you have loop stems you made in your software you can load them as .WAV files in your 404 sx. Once you have your sample loop stems loaded you can apply your desired effect and press resample and select the pad you would like your new sample to be and hit rec. Now just jam with your effect and knobs all you want, when you're done mark your new resampled loop. Move on to the next stem you want to effect and repeat process with any MFx you want. Hope that gives you some ideas, welcome to the SP world cutty.

good lookin out. i actually use FL Studio and Cool Edit for all my stuff. to be absolutely honest, i didnt buy the sp404 to replace FL, in fact, i have no desire to change my setup...but i really wanted it for the effects and for live performances...but i wouldnt mind learning the sequencer..

anywhoos, yeah i figured out how to do it, thanks for the tip....seems like ppl are a lot more helpful here than lots of other forums ha. altho apparently when i resample, i cant use the 3rd knob..?? is there any way around that??

Hmm, you should be able to use the 3rd knob when resampling.

You can't use Ctrl3 while resampling. The manual has found the excuse of "it being used to set sampling level".

Huh? I use Ctrl3 for effects while resampling all the time.

yeah once you are recording you can change knob 3 all you want, just set it where you want it before you start the resample then change it from there once it starts recording

You can definitely do it on the 303. Hit resample chose the pad you want your new sample to end up on and right before you press the original sample pad to start it you'll want to turn up the 3rd knob all the way to get the highest level on your resample.
How's that for a run-on sentence, hope that info makes sense.

Oh yeah, we're talking of the 404SX. Ctrl3 doesn't work while resampling, at least not on mine. Maybe I have a special edition?

Wow. That is a huge drawback! I don't know what I would do if I couldn't use that knob while resampling. Sell your SX and get the old 404 because resampling while tweaking effects is what it's all about. :D

C'MON SON, are you joking me. That would basically make resample useless to me. I guess the best thing to do since your good with software is just record into cool edit and multi-track from there, kinda kills the "I'm hella high and this sounds filthy" spur of the moment beats.
