all this talk really makes me wanna pick up an extra 404, or maybe a 303, or a 555... :o .

two of the same devices is nice cause you don't need to change wires between the machines for bouncing forth and back... just cards... 8)

Sadly, doesn't work on machines without internal memory. Bummer.
