sp 404 & laptop

Post by chanson de roland »

hello
I have a question. I want connect my sp 404 to laptop and record beats. I got Realtek sound card without line in. I bought behringer u-control 202, and I got a mixer and cables. my laptop mixer got only speaker and microphone options. what should I do?

thank You, but I want to record using cool edit, and line in. Behringer U-control have chinch line in & line out, I`m connecting sp 404 to this, and u-control to laptop via USB port, and nothing happens. I tried also sp 404 / mixer / u-control / laptop - and also nothing. I`m changing settings in cool edit, but I still cannot find line in option. need help with that

Can you hear the sopund you want to record through your laptop speakers? It seems there's a problem with the USB connection and not the recording program, maybe the driver isn't installed properly or something like that!? You can't record anything unless you're able to hear the sound.

get yourself something like the presonus firebox which is a firewire external sound card and run the outs of 404 into the in's of the firebox, and then set your preferences inside of whichever audio software your using.

thanks, but presonus is too expensive. I just wonder if I can record with equipment that I got: sp 404, behringer-u control UCA 202, some regular dj mixer, cool edit and some speakers. and laptop. when I put behringer USB port, the new drivers are installed, but nothing else, lap doesn`t even see the usb, first or the second one, but in programs like ableton I see that I can change settings a lil bit, and put sound thru behringer. but when I`m tring to open windows or cool edit sound mixer, there is a sdnvol32 /r error or something. I thought I can just connect sp via chinch to u-control, and u-control connect to laptop via usb, and just switch the settings a lil bit, just click 'line in' on some cool edit mixer and record. but I cannot. probably it sounds crazy :)

get a boss multitrack recorder, that will make everything some much easier, get rid of the laptop for the musical side of things.

ok. thank You all. I think I figured it out. I can now record. it was probably the settings issue.

how did you get it to work exactly? i was having the same problem yesterday. my uncle gave me a bunch of Freddie Hubbard unreleased records to copy onto CD. I downloaded reaper and audacity and haven't been able to get it to work properly. the sound quality is horrible.

i'm running the turntable into the mixer. from my mixer out to the headphone/mic input of my laptop.

someone please help!!

EDIT: i meant to say Mic in. not Headphone.. lol.

well headphone/line in doesn't really make much sense, the line in should only input audio, where as the headphone outputs audio, make sure you have it plugged into the line in/mic in if you have one, and make sure that its selected to be on in the audio settings

EDIT: but i guess if your saying it sounds horrible then your in the right line in, check those audio settings though and see how high the mic in is turned up, might be peaked out

You know how some PC laptops have a 1/8" headphone jack as well as the 1/8" mic jack? I plug into a mic jack with a splitter from my mixer into the laptop. Is this a conducive way of recording into a CPU?

Thanks man, I'll try that again once I get home. I was looking in the preferences tab in Reaper for those settings. I'll look again, hopefully this evening I can get it to work.
