Re: Studio Pics
Yeah I'm very familiar with an ESX, I had one but I sold it to make room for the MV. I do miss it though, I liked how you can sample yourself tweaking and fiddling with a beat until it becomes something new. Its those tubes and 32Hz sampling rate that gave it that dirt sound. The most easiest sampler to work with,
dudes thought it was some hi-tech ish with all the knobs.
Re: Studio Pics
I just wanted to clear some thing up on the ESX.
1. The tubes actually do not help the sound, the more you turn it up the muddier it gets. (with factory tubes)
2. The factory tubes create a lot of white noise, these can be replaced to get a crunchier/warmer sound with less noise. ($40 upgrade)
3. ESX samples at 44.1khz (only sample mode). You have mono or stereo. No lofi modes.
4. ESX AC adapter is VERY noisy (I've confirmed this with 2 other owners). It will vibrate and hum if you put the ac adapter on a desk.
The ESX is a great machine and I put a lot of time into mine over the years, but I recently sold it. It had just been collecting dust for the last year since i got my Zoom Sampletrak. If you got the money to burn pick one up. Just a warming, these machines are not for everybody.

Re: Studio Pics
yes
you can do lot of things with the esx
but i think that is moslty conceived for house/techno stuff (the TR sequencer)...
anyway dnb/jungle/dubstep are also good with this machine...

Re: Studio Pics
My bad, 32kHz was on the ES-1. But the tubes were meant to distort and fry your sound. Combine that with the effects and filters and such, and you can really get dirty. Depends how you ride the gain for the tubes to get a warm sound.
I don't know about the AC since I kept it on the floor, but even during quiet days I never heard it hum.
But yeah, its aimed toward the DnB crowd, but dope for live HipHop and experimentals.

Re: Studio Pics
Unfortunately I did, but its in the very trustworthy hands of a previous owner, and I've got an intensive search going for another SP as we speak. The 2000 has been cool so far though, big difference from the 303, but I like what I've seen so far.
