Feedback on this mixdown

Trying to perfect my mixing skills and would like to know what you guys think of this?

no, it's ok, i was only saying that if you want to be the snare more "seen", maybe you should try some eq things with it as you say...but there's no rules in mixing, this is the good (and the bad) thing of this part of production...

yeah i think the snare gets alittle overpowered by the bass so maybe bring up the highs or the amp of the snare the bass sounds good so it would be a shame to lose its clarity/impact trying to compensate for the low snare.

well maybe you guys aren't hearing the "snare" because i didn't use a traditional snare sound? i used a sort of clanky short clap that delays at a 1/8 rate or some shit. cause i can hear that sound that i used as the "snare" pretty clear in the mix, but maybe that's not what you were reffering to?

I'm have no training to make any suggestions (haha!) but... the bass and the kick feel kinda close. Lots of mids, and maybe not enough highs.

I'd cut the upper part of the bass to give the kick a little more breathing room, and boost the subby part of the bassline so it feels heavier... then maybe pull the mids back a liitle and boost the highs.

I'm kinda interested in learning more about mixes too so I slapped something together in the headphones as an audio description of the above.

If anything, I think it kinda might show there are more highs in there... like around 1:51 in that breakdown area you can hear the subbiness and the highs. I might have got too happy with the boosts and cuts tho.. lol.

I used fabfilter Pro-Q, here's the curve...



from left to right, boosted the sub, cut back the bass around the kick, boosted the upper part of the kick, cut back the mids a bit, then boosted everything else. Listening to this one again with some fresh ears.. think I got too happy with the sub cos it's distorting, and may have cut too much of the upper part of the bass too.

I listened to your new edit and def can hear the highs better, but it might be missing the knock on the bottom. The bass kinda sounds like it's pumping thru a compressor with a fast attack and longer release or is being sidechained to something... cos it starts soft then slowly gets louder instead of just being in your face.

We should do something were everyone who's down masters someone's track. That way we can all learn... I def wanna know more about this shit... hehe
