Why no homage to sp-forums though?!!

im glad they left us out of this.
this is the whackest shit ive seen in a minute.

that army of pseudo-anime mean-muggin dudes with the incredibly poorly photoshopped sps!!??!?!??!??
Image

and who the fuck is...
Image

i like that they dont mention 9-11 in 2001 but instead that u2 won a grammy.
but in 2009 h1n1 rocked the fucking world.

i wonder if this new sp with a keyboard will have pitch on it???

looks like it still only has 4 tracks :(
but i do like the flame graphic :) . i just hope that roland is listening to us and they actually put some cool features on this new shit. it looks like they are going for a more minimal design which is cool 8) . i hope they dont skimp on things like effects and sequencing because of something like the addition of a keyboard :| . i dont see much in the way of effects control on this thing though  .

the 72 button grid puts this thing in direct competition with products like the monome or akai's apc 20/40. :D
i just roland has thought this through  im pretty pumped either way    :? .

yeah this one.

why the fuck is roland always showing SPs as being used for short samples inserted into DJ sets??

I would say 80% of users do not use them in this phony club setting with two turntables using the sp for an occasional YEAH or COME ON

they need to get it together with their marketing and get rid of "dj kentaro" or whatever the hell that dudes name is.

Yeah. I know I and a lot of others on this site have created full songs using just an sp and recording software/hardware... even big name producers have dropped the sp name when talking about highly revered hip hop tracks. animal collective use sp's as a main tool in creating their whole albums... even metal and grind bands use them in their sets. its like roland has no idea of the potential in these boxes

shouldn't his trade mark weapon be an sp? :?

Kentaro is hella dope though! Trademark weapon: turntables

Maybe it just makes more sense to market to that demographic, because the number of poser wannabe DJs far outnumbers the real musicians who have discovered the SP can actually be useful for practically ANY musician or style. Seems like they just picked one sterotype of one kind of musician because it's too hard to market to a bunch of different smaller groups of users.

I wish they wouldn't do that, I probably would have bought a sampler way sooner. I found out about it through research, and to this day find the marketing behind the sp's laughable. They are never in catalogs sent out by music establishments (while mv and mpc's are) and I have never seen any sort of online or television advertisements outside of the roland site. its like they want to hide it... i would have bought a 303 back in the 90's if I had known they existed. that 300,000 units could have been achieved much earlier I believe. they don't have to market TO us, they just have to provide information for a wide range of consumers. people are not stupid, we aren't buying scented deodorant here. this is flexible, easy to use high end music equipment, used by intelligent and capable musicians.

Didja ever think Roland & Boss were beefing, like Luke & Darth Vader- then Roland says "Boss... I am your father" and then Boss said "You'll never be the boss of me!" and that's why they don't get to make SPs anymore?

ive watched this anime before and it's pretty cool actually... but for it to be a part 2 ive never heard of the first one....

but yeah the whole thing is a gimmick... SP's in general have their own cult status that's been around for years... roland is a lil late to the party....

:D I see you DREW!! I feel your pain, I'm sure if Dre used an SP505 for Chronic or T-Pain actually used the pitch-shift effect on the 404 for vocals, this place would be flooded. But then it'll just be another mpc-forums and I wouldn't want that. Here is where real SP users have freedom of speech and where the true underground abodes. Its a shame that Roland is aiming for posers and dummying their products to that level. Its like a sequel to BeatKangz.
