Sad news about GURU

Maybe many of you have heard about this. The legendary rapper Guru had a heart attack on sunday and is now in coma. Hope he'll recover!

Shame, GURU influenced me alot when I was 14. He was the first to bring that Coltrane image to Hip Hop. That smooth intellect with a jazz appeal. I hope he gets well.

That whole "Hard to earn" LP is such a classic in my book. Used to listen to it a lot when I was younger.. Strange coincidence that I was listening to this song "Lifesaver" from his Jazzmatazz 2 LP on sunday - the day he suffered the attack. That Jazzmatazz 2 joint is also some classic stuff.

Jazzmatazz 2 got alot of classic joints. My favorite from there is Revelation with Forbidden Fruit and Life Saver.

Step in the Arena is the album that got me to make beats, Premier went crazy with that one, every song was made with like 3 to 6 records maybe more. GURU's flow was on a intellect level but spoken on a simplistic plain so that anyone could listen.

Daily Operation is an underrated classic.

Guru’s nephew on the ‘true story’ behind rapper’s hospitalization and coma

In a video message about his uncle’s health, Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff, the nephew of Guru, the Gangstarr rapper who recently suffered cardiac arrest and slipped into a coma on February 28, reveals what he calls the ‘true story’ behind the hospitalization. At the center of this situation is Solar, Guru’s producer and musical collaborator for the last six years, who Ruff claims is (for some reason) in control of Guru’s health decisions and is refusing to update his family about the rapper’s condition.

“Since the information [about Guru’s cardiac arrest and coma] leaked, Solar has completely cut us off,” says Ruff in the video. “Solar has complete control over the flow of information given from the hospital and will not disclose any information with us.”

In order for the family to receive updates on Guru, and be permitted to visit him, they would need to hire a lawyer and take Solar to court, Ruff says, a process that would take weeks to sort out. On Tuesday, Ruff explains that he was stressed out not knowing the condition of his uncle, so he sent a text to Solar, asking for an update on Guru’s condition. When he received a text back from Solar, it read: “Trish (Ruff’s mother) started this!!! And Guru would never have told her he was in the hospital. This is horrible what she did!! Now I need to care for Guru. Peace.” Ruff then asked again for information, stating he was not his mother and that he was just worried about his uncle. Solar never responded. But soon after, Ruff saw the following update on Solar’s Twitter page:

Ruff says he was shocked when he read this and that Solar needs to do the right thing. He then briefly mentions that Solar is known for manipulative behavior in his relationship with Guru. In concluding his message, he states that “time is of the essence” in this situation and that Guru’s family needs to be involved with decisions regarding his health. He ends his video message by saying: “This was written in reaction to feeling powerless in a dire situation.”

And where's Premier in the mist of this? Who the fuck Solar think he is, thinking he can own people's lives, thats some shady shit right there.

Mad love to Guru, stay strong man......that same day that he had his heart attack i had sent him a message on myspace just telling him to stay real and stay true to real hip hop, and not expecting to receive a message back i ended up getting a short message from him back saying, "stay true to what your doing & peace.", Guru is a real dude, one of my biggest influences in hip hop, i just hope he can pull through this and get back on his feet and make another Gangstarr classic....PEACE.
