I dont think the 404SX has a different processor to the 404, I think it's just because they have new card reading hardware in there which is faster than the old...

Perhaps, but copying pads or backing up patterns is near instant, where reading from compact flash cards really involves little to no loading at all.

I do think they do not have the same processor, but it certainly helps that the new flash cards are incredibly small and faster.

put it this way... they came out with a new piano bench this year... its not even usb compatible...

ok here goes my dream machine (this shit will never happen):

four motorized faders (user replaceble; just like the effects units on the dj1000 or the dj 2000)
this will be used for:
1. the four track sequencer
2. effects
3. adsr
next- 16 pads just like the 505 with a pitch piano style (that can be layed out across keys) and veloc. sensing would be nice.
resample out (this would be big)
i don't need track mute as long as i have subsonic and four part faders but programmable roll would be more than welcome.
also:damn the computer connection, just keep all files 16 bit/44.1 khz and we can use our own software to do what we want (but a usb connect to control our soft and sample from, like the 555 would be sweet).

ok now just to justify; all these things are available on sp's they have made except the motorized partof the four faders and keys layout but that's available on the mc-808 and vp-9000, respectively, which are both just sp's in disguise. sorry for the long post but i've been doing some thinking about this great topic. i would love to design my own (like some timberland boots  ).

i think it would be dope if roland dropped an effects box (twinned would be good) of all sp effects. could be cheap aswell. then i wouldn't have to buy another 404.

yeah, roland effects are nice, one night i even did a search for roland effects vst, with no luck. i had to try but it be nice to have like software or hardware to just process things through its unique effects. thats why alot of sp beats have a certain sound is because of its effects. be hard to reproduce them with anything other than an sp.

Like Beardface said a combination of all the sp features would be great plus
bigger polyphony ,
more knobs to tweak more effects,
undo-redo on the loop capture,
resampling a pattern/song,
vinyl pitch,scale pitch(505),
sdhc cards,wav read-write(with no conversion)...

I love the dbeam, the 606 screen&usb audio so i would like to see them on the new sp.
As far for v-link i don't care....

Messing around with my Micro BR, I was just thinking that it would be supremely dope if Roland could make a Micro SP. That little thing got so many effects and advanced timestretch capabilities I think it can be done and with a 299.00 price. You could sample on the go with just a Micro SP and an iPod.
