Trademarking your name!

Im sure that most of us here have not trademarked our names, and am now understanding the seriousness of doing this if Im to release work. I am researching the topic, but im not understanding the best process to take. Ive been to http://www.uspto.gov/ but Im not good at this kind of stuff. Is there anyone who could give me a strong idea of the moves I should take to make this happen? help greatly appreciated!

Yeah im gonna sign up with either ascap or bmi, still deciding. But does signing up with one of them trademark my name?

The best way is to copyright a work under your studio name, which is called a pseudonym (author with a fictionous name). This way if someone steals your name, you can show the court that you claimed that name first. Copyrights provide dates of when you claimed the name too. Its cheaper than paying fees to BMI or such.

Yes, but ill be joining up with ascap or bmi anyways. But im gonna trademark my name and label name anyways so info on the process would be awsome, and yes i will be copyrighting my work as well
