I'm wondering if Roland will try to compete with Akai's MPC500 and make a cross between the Roland SP-404 and Roland SP-808... what do you think? I'd like to see at least 8 tracks of sequencing, battery powered, more effects, etc. They are running out of numbers though.
if they would update the 404's OS and include some of the features from our wishlist (check the other thread) then it might perfectly compete with mpc500.
if i were Roland i would make it like this, coz thus i save lots of money and keep the old clients also.

How? I'm not talking about muting loops. I'd like to have a snare on one track, a hi hat on a seperate track, BD on another... how do you get around the one track sequencer when you want to do that?
Well, that's a little better...thanks for the tip... but then you still need to remember where each individual sample is ...and when using 96 samples on a card...that can suck. I'd just like to have some tracks...nothing worng with that.

Or just hit the sample, hit START/END LEVEL, then turn knob 4 (the LEVEL knob) to your desired level. This controls the sample's individual level and you can then sort-of make a rough mix in the 404. When you export just do it rough style- play the sequence and mute everything but one sample with this method and go through and do this with every sample so you can properly mixdown in whatever you use with every sample/element having it's own track on your DAW/8-track/whatever.
well, Roland did release an update to the MV-8000. The MV-8800 appears to be the only new sampler-esque instrument released. They also released the VSynth GT which has a sampler built into it but that's a bit of stretch for this forum
