Yeah, true indeed, but this mix already sounds a lot fuller than the other ones. It's mighty important though to spice up your beat with proper use of mixing, panning and mastering.
I already know quite a lot about it, but I haven't mastered it myself by far either. It's complicated ish, a true science. :p

maybe next try could be turning off the quantizing on drums?

I agree about the drums.. even if you just start by loosening the snare up (try droppin it a little late on one then a little early on the other.. and vice versa) and maybe the hihats just so they shift around a bit

I think he's using 'grid quantize' on his bass/kick drum, where probably a 'shuffle/swing quantize' would be better. I don't think his drums are off here though.
I do think some samples might have a little bit more space before they start than others. In most cases a healthy amount of space before the sample kicks in is the right way to go.

Actually I Only used Grid Quantize on the snare and hi hats the rest was live
