Sorry for the long post but I feel like 2 sp's are a game changer

My signal flow is turntable-->sp1200-->303-->303

I sample into the sp1200, chop it up and play around until I can play a loop I like. I record it into the second 303 with the benefit of 2 effects, then loop it up. btw - I love the 303 for looping, when on loop mode and adjusting the end point, it doesn't jump back to the beginning of the loop like the 404 does. This sets my pattern tempo. After this, I can play other samples on the sp1200 and record onto the first 303, as the pattern is playing on the second. Or if the sample is on the first 303, I resample as the pattern is playing on the second 303. Then I just transfer whatever the new sample onto the second 303, and sequence there, already knowing it's perfectly in tempo

So I basically use the last 303 to build the beat with the pattern recorder and as a catch all for effected samples, and use my sp1200 and 303 to play along and create samples in time with the pattern as it's still playing. I really don't even need the sp1200 in this workflow but I like chopping on it and its sound.

In my opinion for what I use it for 2 303's are better than a 555 that I've had before. And much cheaper.

Animal collective are rocking 2 555's and a 404 in this one (love how they have the Juno 60 all taped up so you can't see the brand or model name):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zol2MJf6XNE

Doesn't seem like they are actually running any patterns, just playing one shot samples live which is cool if you have enough hands with good rhythm. I've done the same thing in my old band with my 303 using it to just trigger held chords recorded off an organ. It's the first sound you hear on the song "real plan" here: http://www.myspace.com/otherpeoplewhorespace

I Just ordered a 404sx myself to go with my 303 and I'm really excited, specifically because having both will allow me to actually perform some songs I have previous been unable to perform live due to logistical constraints. They got the SX on amazon for $339, free shipping yo!!!!!

They're not even using midi cables to sync. Seems very live indeed. 8)

You can also record your beats this way, say 404 -> 404, then export to the CF card.

what i do a lot now is record a sample line into the second 404... export that... and import it back to the first.... onboard memory is where it's at...

generally i use one sp as a drummer and the second as a sampler... 24voices are king!

Combined FX are super dope too... looper+filter is insane. I totally would recommend a second oldschool 404 for everybody. 303+404 didn't gave me what I have now... still got the 303 though... 8)

@ megamaeng what made you ditch the 404sx for a second 303? just the looping thing?

Yeah that as well as having dedicated pitch and vinyl sim effect buttons since I use those 2 effects a lot. Also, the 303 is ridiculously cheap. I was able to sell my 404sx, get a 303 and have some change left over. And on a more superficial level two 303s next to each other look better than a 303/404 combo :mrgreen:

I'm a little embarrassed to say but I picked up a third 303 since it was offered to me for $100. I do use all 3 in a live setting but I admit my love for the 303 is a little over the top

@megamaeng...I'm feeling your setup. I recently got a 404SX, and def starting to see that I like my 202 and 303 a lot more. Kinda sad, cos I'm on the verge of giving it up to put some funds back in my pocket. The Boss machines have a workflow that just makes more sense to me for some reason... the loop and reverse being prime examples. Then again, maybe I'll just hold on to it a bit longer and see if some magical shit happens... lol.

You forgot to mention one advantage, when one SP dies you'll always have a backup. :D

Kinda on hold at the moment. Got distracted between work and trying to rearrange my setup, but it's not forgotten.. most definitely, just kinda missed actually trying to make some tracks. :)
