Yes, I use that exact kind with my 404. I too have heard people say that they are not compatible, but I can confirm that they do indeed work. Newegg has them pretty cheap.

I just got a new 404 off ebay and whilst waiting for it to be delivered i got excited and asked around all local electronics and computer stores for a CF card. I'm in australia too and feel your pain! Anyways, i didn't find any, but one guy suggested that i try sewing shops as apparently sewing and embroidery machines use compact flash cards for pattern storage etc. I have not tested this yet, but if you are driving past a sewing store sometime you could try it at least? Otherwise, maybe dedicated camera stores might still have some just by chance? My 404 just arrived and by a very happy occurence it has a CF card in it thank god, but i'm still going to keep my eye out.

I don't know about Australia but in the UK they can still be had from the usual outlets - but finding CF of 1GB or less is definitely getting harder. On-line suppliers to industry and education list them, but at top prices like they were 5 years ago! Problem is that sort of supplier either have a minimum order or you have to have a trade account with them.

The Sewing machine connection is one I'd never have thought of - you learn something new....

I bought one 512 MB few weeks ago just to see if it is compatible... in a cellphone store
and it was around 5 euros.
It's Traxdata Flash series CF card.
Works NP in SP-555.

Hello.

I just got an 404 and Im in the same pain:( Live in DK.

I got this card though
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDCFB-1 ... B00006AE3K
SanDisk 1 Gb, just not the Ultra.

And it reads it, but when I use it, its really slow and recording does not work well. Have any of you tried this problem and still made this card work? cus if there is a way to work this card, then its sold many places in DK.

But any one by any chance tried this problem or can confirm that SanDisk 1 gb Ultra II works?
