What do you recomend?

Post by YoungHeat »

Since the sp has the bpm sync and u can change the tempo of a sample without changing the pitch....(Timestretch) Well Would u recommend me sampling from my turntable on 33 pm 8% pitch then use the bpm sync to bring it down? Cause i know thats what producers did back in the day with the Sp1200 then they pitched it down soo they could chop the sample....Would any of you guys recommend that? it dosent always have to be +8% but I jus needed to use an example.....

EDIT: I jus wanted to add a question: I know I've asked a million times but I really neeed to know because I dont want to get the sp if it dosent....Will the sp pitch a sample without changing the tempo? I know it will change the tempo of a sample without changing the pitch but does it pitch without changing tempo? I really dont wanna spend my money on it if it dosent and I dont want to use the pc bucause im done with the pc for production needs because I want to be a hands on kinda guy....

Stretching should be kept to a minimum with phrase samples (artefacts). No hardware really stretches as well as sofware. It is do-able though.

The pitch-shifter on the MFX doesn't effect tempo, and works fairly well.

You can still be a hands on producer with a pc. I understand the "lack" of creativity feel when using only a pc, but integration adds many new possibilities and still makes me feel like I am the one making music. Its novelty, and rejection of it is an obstacle to creativity in my opinion.

I decided to use my sp as my sampler and use it for drums and use cubase to sequence it....I jus wanted to know how to pitch shift and how to speed or slow my samples down without messing with the pitch or pitch a sampler up or down without messing with the tempo ya know...So I actually am goin to be hands on at the same time of using my custom built pc with cubase....Thanx man soo u said the MFX pitch shifter wont effect my tempo..? thats good as long as I can pitch and not effect tempo and shift tempo without effecting pitch! COOL! the SP is my choice...lol

The pitch shifter does not affect tempo.

yep, the very same.

It's not the best pitch shifter around - AcidExpress (free) from Sony will do the BEST job though.

The 606 really works well with a computer - it's fine without it too, but to do certain tasks I'm of the opinion just use the right tool for the job, rather than getting all precious about the 'hows n whyfors'...

People listening to your music will generally never ask how you got a certain sound anyway (except on forums of course!).

You cannot do any "16-levels" typa chit on the 606 quickly. Carefully resampling through pitch shift will have you more fun.
