Ok so I made a beat on the MPC 1000 and have it all tracked out, and ready to record, but I dont want to record into the pc...

I want to record into the 404.

So I tried it just like I would record from my record player into the sp: Assign a pad bank, and a pad then press record.

This is while having the stereo cables connected:

Output on the MPC, and Input on the SP.

It starts recording, but when I finish, I plug in my speakers into the SP, press the pad, and nothing comes out!!! How ever it is still lid up, meaning it recorded, but recorded nothing!

Anybody have an idea of whats going?

Or what can I do to fix this problem?

mmmm, well if you can hook up an audio out of the 404 while playing the beat through it that would be a good way to figure it out, whether its just the head phone jack or the rca outs into speakers, because if you can hear the audio while the external source is on then its gotta record on to a pad, when your recording now are you listening to audio outs on the mpc and just hoping its recording into the 404??

mic button should be off, ext source should be on. make sure its going to the input(not output jacks) of 404. make sure you didnt accidently turn the input volume to 0 . if you turn the volume up on the mpc, does the peak light on the 404 come on?

maybe you connected the speakers to the SP's ins instead of outs? I do that all the time by accident.

I have a mpc 1k and a 404sx. I found the best way to do what you want is to connect them correct. Like everyone else said have the ext button on sp on. Then buy yourself a monster instrument cable with one quater inch on one side for the ext in on front right of sp (mic in) and a split (two quater inch left and right) for ur audio out on back of mpc. Should work swimmingly. And always use headphones or speakers from the device ur recording into.

Nooooooooooo

I'm afraid I'll have to object here - please don't advise people to plug a line level source (MPC output) into a microphone input (SP-404 mic in)! Two reasons:

1) Microphone inputs are much much more sensitive than line inputs - naturally, since a mic outputs a much lower volume than a line out does. You might overload the input and it'll distort the sound very easily.
2) The mic input is mono, while the MPC has a stereo output. Why limit yourself to mono sampling while the SP-404 has a stereo line input at the back? Get a 2xRCA->2x1/4" adaptor cable instead and use the line input for sampling from a line source.

Additionally, NEVER EVER plug a splitter cable into two outputs, and then into one input. That's the wrong way around! All you'll do is short out the two outputs, and if you're lucky, they're not protected and BAM they're fried. Those cables are intended to plug one output into two inputs instead!

I suggest you check the SP-404SX manual again - on pages 16 and 17 it describes what to plug where.

i dont have the sp 404 yet but i would agree with this only cause i have the rca adapters and thats all you need to have the right signal. its the same as any other piece of equip....you have to sometimes use adpaters in order to make the plug signal compatable into rca. make sense?

Well, from what you describe your are recording into a pattern. I would think that you'd need to record it as a sample first. The patterns just note the Midi from the sample pads.
Not sure if this could be it.
