Import or record?

Hi, i just got my boss sp 303. i havent tried it out yet because i need to buy a 9v adaptor. But i was wondering how this really works. Do you guys just import the whole song to the sampler and chop it up? or is there a better way of doing it... ? oh what the hell ill just read the manual haha.
but i would appreciate a respond.

just import or record the bits you want.. its quicker to grab a record and move a needle around than it is to play thru the whole song over and over again on the SP

i think most of us had plenty of questions on how to do certain things pertaining to SP's etc. but i don't get why people buy equipment they don't research first. new comers welcome to the forums but be aware that there is a search option on here....also google...also manuals....also your brain. i don't mean to be an ass....but tonight i just felt like it.

there has seem to have been a heavy increase in these sorts of posts lately, did you guys notice like week or so ago one night where there was like 5 new questions from different users about footswitch MIDI capabilities?? SX must be hittin all sorts of new scenes or somethin

but to answer the OP question, i'd say just record in through the line in, and take just the parts you want to use, either in small pieces that you'll mark (always take a little more than you need), or a whole phrase/part that you will resample a bunch of times to cut up like that instead of trying to play a bunch of little parts from the same part of a song over and over everytime you record just a stab or 2 beat cut or some shit, just use your head and access that creative outlet in your brain, this box is all about lettin you flip those dope samples you hear into some raw beats, now get cuttin!!

I've noticed that too even though I'm pretty new to this forum as well. Maybe we should set up some general beginner's advice? Something along the lines of

1) Don't expect to make cool music right away. First you need to learn your instrument and get a sense for the kind of music you're doing. As in every kind of art, you need to develop some skills first. That needs time, more time, and even more practice, practice, practice.

2) Never release your first song, it sucks. Your friends and family might tell you it's cool, but they do because they appreciate that you made something yourself. Believe me, it sucks.

3) Always read through all the manuals you get with your instruments. If you bought something used and didn't get a manual with it, that's no excuse - close to all manufacturers have made their product manuals available online. Often enough, manuals contain valuable additional information about the basics - cables, signal routing, studio setup and the likes.

4) etc whatever makes sense

to chop = to cut/truncate
to flip = take random sample, repeat it randomly and put boomchak over it
beattape = mostly one or more mp3 files, disregard the "tape" part in most cases
beat = song

Clearly this is not a freedom of speech forum, Ive been making music for 9 years playin guitar, drums and piano with all kinds of softwares... logic, reason, pro tools so dont try to make me look like a fool... I know what im doing, i just wanted to speed things up with my music and ask a freakin simple question on a FREEDOM of speech forum... That was rude man, even if your sick.
