k so im still pretty new to this, and i have a feeling ima get yelled at for the info im about to tell yall. . .i have yet to do anything on the computer with my cf card. . .when i filled up all the sample banks on my first card, instead of saving them to a different part of the card. . .i just bought a new card. is it really worth rearranging them on your computer rather than just spend the money on a new card? i feel like everyones gona say yes but how much is the thing that lets you plug your card into a comp, and is it difficult to sort through samples on the comp? main reason im asking is ive just filled up my banks on my second card too so idk if i shud buy another card yet or not

i'd say buy another card if you can, thats way more useful than using back ups, cause there will probably be a point where you can't get anymore cards, but it really depends on how you use the cards in your workflow, i used to keep drums on the card banks, and then keep the two internals empty and do all choppin in there, save em as a back up, and have 12 beats to call up on the fly, with the sequences on the internal too, but i got tired of that and the back ups, so now i wiped all 7 of my cards and have them filled with more chops and individual cut up breaks for each beat that is just like havin a bunch of chops, and i'm thinkin so i can save them and move on i'm gonna throw them in a folder on my comp so i can come back to them as i find stuff that i feel might be real nice to mix in and record out with it instead of tryin to mix it over a finished polished up beat, so its all dependent on your workflow, but i would say go ahead and fuck with that to free up space, and get a new card, and fill them both up ASAP hahaha

i wish i had more cards, only got two. after i've finished a beat i put the contents on my computer, it's real easy. the only problem is, i really have to be DONE with it. cuz something always goes wrong when i try to jump back into it again. like it says the card is full or i've forgotten which pads i've saved or moved around or whatever. in fact i still don't 100% know how it works. so if i had the money i would definitely keep buying more cards. ideally i'd like to have about five of em.

Yeah, same here. I don't back-up either. But I do save the original samples I've chopped. Beats or work in progress might end up recorded somewhere, but in contrast to what I do with my MV, I rarely back-up individual patterns on my SP-404. It doesn't make much sense anyway as I tend to delete or change samples a lot when I start something new.

But I have to say the sp404 works mainly as an FX box in my work-flow. It's not my main sampler. If it would have been my only sampler I would probably either back-up or make sure to record some loops.
