question about using 2 pads at once

hey guys, i had a question about my 404sx, because for some reason, pads both come on together, no matter if im just pressing one pad. so even if i want to play the sample on pad 9, the samples from pad 9 & 10 play at the same time, and it's driving me crazy. i have no idea what to do and I have been reading the manual but i cant find anything. any help would make my day.

as far as I know, there is no way to somehow "join" 2 pads together, so Im guessing the card could be messed up.
