Yeah I believe the pause is only for patterns, and you cannot reverse patterns. i assume the 555 can do that in box with the loop capture, then reverse the capture.
i would get the 404sx cus i think the kaossilator is a toy  my friend has one it just sounds cheesy to me. and his tap tempo button got stuck its 1st week. but im just biased, i really don't like that little thing.

one more thing i noticed on the sx is that it remembers the bpm of the pattern that you last worked on. i turned it off at 150, it turned on at 150 (102 was still the out of the box default tho 8) )

Sounds good to me, thanks for the insights!

I now got an SP-404 and am very happy with it, but I'm still very interested in the smaller differences. The Flying Lotus copy method works fine for me, so I don't think the Pattern Copy is going to make me sell this SP-404.

But I do wonder, does the new SP-404sx also take equally as long as the sample would play, for it to import a sample??

According to the old SP-404 manual, importing a 3 minutes WAV file, is supposed to take 3 minutes.

As the SP-404sx doesn't convert to the SP-404 format anymore, does this mean, it's like near instant?

I wonder if the pure performance difference might be a good enough reason to want an SP-404sx. The [func] button has been a good idea, so that'll mean less [cancel] + [etc.] kind of short cuts you need to memorize.

But... I think I'm going to shrink and print the shortcuts from the manual and turn it into a sticker and put it on the back of my SP-404 anyway (above the batteries). :)

Time for stupid questions: what happens when you import an 8 bit sample and then press the lo-fi button?
