k so i noticed that if a sample a drum break and chop it, its very difficult to do say like a drumroll with those chopped samples, cuz it gets all screwed up when trying to do it, especially if i use the subpad. . .anyone know why or any solutions???

find a break with a drum roll in it.........

another option could be possibly to make a few copies of the drum you wanna roll, i'm assuming a snare, and, depending on the break, cut em short for the ones in the middle maybe?? and turn down the volume a little, depends on the kinda roll your lookin for too, a real fast roll is super hard to emulate compared to a slower one, also maybe use space before hits to place them instead of trying to quantize, this would be good esp for a slower roll cause it might only be like 6 hits overall, and you can place them exactly where you want them and get the swing your lookin for

gettin a solid drum game for your tracks is the hardest part about sampling in my opinion, takes a long time to get a great ear for and memory for breaks, even when you got the 300 breaks pack right at your finger tips

sometimes you can get a more organic sounding roll if you resample yourself hitting the snare pad rapidly, then take that sample and make the bpm of it faster. the glitchy-ness can sometimes sound like slightly different hits on a roll.

take the main snare and resample it a bunch of times with diferent eqs, then change the velocity of 4 levels , and then put snares between your main kicks and snares, this should sound like drum rolls.

You mean like you're getting cut offs because of phasing of samples that are played at the same time, right? Well an easy fix for that is to a. have a hi-hat (assuming you do hi-hat rolls) with a bit of reverb on it, but the audio part itself should be as short as possible (ie. tightly chopped) and b. you can have two hi-hat samples on two different pads and one has a slightly different content (it went through a filter, has lower volume or something like that) then 'phasing' is less likely to happen if you do a roll with two pads (not using the sub-pad).

Anyways, the reason why sound-wise it screws things up is essentially because parts of one sample sounds twice at nearly the same time, causing an overlap that distorts the sound.

I'm not sure this really is what the OP is asking, but we are talking about getting good rolls, so I'll throw this in:

You could put reverb on the pad and do what we DJs call a "twiddle" to it.

You know how you can tap your index and middle finger back and forth on a table? You do that to a pad. You just angle your hand so your drumming on opposite corners of a single pad. You have to make sure you lift each finger just before the other one hits, but you can learn to do this, and do it really fast.

Do it with both hands on two pads?... BLAZING SPEEDS. But you must train, like Ninja.

I can twiddle very quickly, like a drum roll. But then again, it's pretty easy to do to a button compared to a crossfader. =^)

Now guess what the Roland engineers thought of when they put that lovely sub pad on the SP-404 :)
