ok
i thougth it was just a synth to make lead or atmospehric synths, but no bass.
after all if we can change to the lowest octaves we can find bass everywhere (potentially)...
and yes, the fact you can record motion sequences it could help to build bass or other strange sounds (or noises)...
peace

I love the electribes.. I want to eventually have a complete set of mk2 electribs.. and i guess emx/esx would be cool too..

These are by far the best series of Electribes. No menus, cheap, very tweakable and loads of fun. Especially the ER-1 (I don't know why the drums are PCM samples on the EM-1, ESX-1 and EMX-1, when the drum synthesis features on this box are so great).

em-1 is all pcm samples.. even the synth bits.
esx-1 is a sampler... of course it plays samples :P (technically you could load oscillator samples in, loop them, and then pitch modulate them to work a bit like an ER-1)

emx-1 .. same as em-1, just more advanced

technically the er-1 is based off pcm samples too, it just has different controls to the others.

It would have been so dope if they'd made an ER-X... would be like an affordable machinedrum.. everyone woulda owned one!

I'm always toying with getting another er-1, but the problem is - it really can only do 1 set of sounds.. i love it for those sounds, but its a one-trick pony.
if it had had some effects like the es-1 does, it could have been far more characterful... oh well!

I've got the ea-1, er-1, & em-1. You can get some atmospheric sounds out of the ea-1, but you might want to add some reverb from an effects unit of some sort (pedal/rackmount unit). It's not the deepest synth by any means, but that's it's charm.

The em-1 has samples of drums/synths, but you have more effects, and the samples can be pitched up/down to your preference. It's kinda like having a er/ea in one machine, but kind of not. You can't process the audio like you can on the ea/er, which is a shame.

The er-1 is sorta a VA for drum sounds, but you can get some R2D2 noises, some bit crushed booms, and a little delay/reverb out of it as well. I love to mess with the depth/time knobs and get some motorcycle(ish) effects from the beats. It's also fun to process the audio from a stereo synth, a cd player, or whatever and have snippets of it come in on the beat. I usually have the em-1's audio directly going to the ea-1's audio ins.

I'd like to score a es-1 to complete the collection, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I will soon be getting the ES-1 in a few weeks, but I have to score my SP606 first. But I'll have a decent setup by the end of 2011.
