Back when I had my SP-606 I loved the fact that I could copy patterns, tweak it for a bit, remove some parts to create a breakdown without breaking the flow.

Used to work pretty good actually. I imagine the same can be done on the SP-404SX even though it has no sequencer.

Copying patterns is definitely useful when you aren't quantizing your drums, samples.

I agree it does give u more control over your beat... But a lazy producer such as myself needs pattern copy! I'm used to it on the 606 and when I was messing around with the 303 I was hopeless after one pattern because I just didn't feel like going thru that same process again to make the same pattern with a slight changeup.

Yes, you can Gis.
Move a pattern to Bank A or B, save a backup, move the pattern back to one of the pads on Bank C-J, then load the backup; you'll find a copy on Bank A or B.

I still think copying patterns is great when you aren't quantizing. The patterns are more similar to another, and you can always take out/add stuff.
I'm sorry, but saying that not using the pattern copy trick gives you more control just isn't true.

it just means u dont have to try and record the same loose beat perfectly again if u wanna do a variation on the pattern

i could see maybe if you programmed 16 bar patterns and wanted to do alot of drum change ups how it could give some spontaneous vibes to your song, but for me , i keep it usually 4's or 8's and like pattern copying , unless my pattern is made from mostly loops in which case its actually quicker to just remake it with more or less parts

Well with the SP-606 you can dive into it some more. Mute tracks, micro edit stuff, add new stuff, all that basically. So it'll give you a fast frame work to continue your track with.

I believe using manual erase you will have similar functionality with the SP-404sx.
