I got this to record off my Sp-404 into my computer (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3359117). Is this the right cable to use?

Yup. Looks good to me. If you are using a windows computer download ASIO4ALLso your soundcard has better performance. If you are on a Mac, don't worry about it.

free software or purchased( meaning whatever your choice is- to spend money or steal it) i use cubase, its a multitrack recording program. if your looking for something easy to use, every here says nice things about audacity. i never used it tho.

this is a cool site for a bunch of free stuff to download. you might look in the audio editor or multitrack section for what you need, nice freeware as well as demos and all that jazz.
hope it helps.

Not sure what I am doing wrong but when I try to record into Audacity the only sound I get is from the internal microphone. :?:

Did you try switching the audacity recording settings to "line in"?

Does the SP use S/PDIF or only RCA cables?
what are some top quality cables, RCA?
I am having problems with Hum and the SP, or is it tough noogies, nothing that can be done, I have searched Hum good responses and the http://www.tweakheadz.com/war_on_hum.htm.

I had to settle recording via a Monster RCA cable with a 1/8 in tip to my laptop to Live lite, maybe my bass cable

Make sure that line in is selected as your primary/standard recording input.

- right click on the speaker in the task bar
- recording ish?&%
- select Line in -> click Standard (not sure how its named in englisch)

If audacity is cool, it will transfer this information... if not you need to select Line In as your recording input in audacity as well... must be in the audio options...

(If windows doesn't show you a Line In ... then tell us...)

good luck!

In properties, click the recording option and press ok. Then you should get the recording control box. Now select your input.

Wait?! if I am recording line in should all the other categories be set to mute? I tried recording again and the only sound that was recorded was when I plugged the cable into the line in on my computer (see attachment).

Yes, this is automatically done.

Line in or aux will do fine. As long as it's not set to microphone.

if i rip stuff out of my 404, i go into the 1/8th inch mic in jack next to the headphone jack on my laptop and i turn mic in on for it to work, if that what your pluggin into use the mic in, otherwise get a card reader and record out to somethin and back in and export to wav cause i can't see why that wouldn't be workin for you
