Case Mod

Ok, so drewdank got me thinking with his thread about changing the led lights on the 404. I've been modding video game consoles to a ridiculous level lately and thought I could try my hand at modding the case for the 404. I was thinking of using sheet metal or plastic and whipping up a template in Illustrator to screen print on the faceplate. Maybe also removing or replacing the BPM/VALUE mirror. I'm mostly just curious to see if anyone here every modded their 404 cosmetically and what your experiences were. Also, didn't some of you fools win custom faceplates or something in a contest on here a while back? If so, feel free to post pics! I've been wondering how they look for some time now.

edit: Just found out one of my close friends has access to a laser engraving machine that can be used to cut plastic and metal. That means that this shit SHOULD look professional. I also made a template in Illustrator... It's just the size of the printable area on the face plate with all the pad/knob stuff blacked out. Dunno why many of you would need it but I worked hard on it so I'll post it later for those who want it. Also, where in the fuck do I get replacement pads or any parts for that matter?

i doubt that the 'eye' can be removed.

you gan get replacement parts from a Roland dealer.

i just soft-hacked my bros wii and i wondered if shit like this might be possible with a 404 too? like adding a pitch/master recording modul for the cf-slot.... i know... :roll:

I love my 404 10times more since it's black...
If the 555 wouldn't be that ugly I surely already bought one...

Yeah, well my original faceplate kinda broke somehow, so I just removed it.
Without the faceplate it's black, too :lol:

Wax, that eye can removed. You have to open the entire case up. The eye is just held in place with four clips and glue. So far my friend and I plan to buff out the back side of it to remove the Roland and BPM/Value text as well as the mirror finish (which I hate), then screenprint everything using a custom font that's reversed. Should look dope. I guess if one wanted to, they could paint the back of it a translucent color. I may also just etch all of the control labels onto the plate. Not sure though. I'm open to suggestions if anyone's got any!

Wax, if you still wanna part with that face plate, let me know. It would save me a fuckload of time if I could find a stock one to paint/engrave so I can avoid cutting everything out.

OK! so heres the deal. i found a professional who does this to macbooks and shit like makes keys clear and stuff. here is what im doing. my 404 as of now is completley black. like i painted over the mfx side thigng and shit. so what im doing is buying a new one in a month and painting it white and stormtroop them motherfuckers. also he said he could do all the lights any color i want. so im going to get red lights with the black like bright red for the number pads. then green for the mfx isolator buttons and the external source is gonna be black HAHAHA
