Lo-Fi, ambient, noise artists?

Post by Hot Sauce »

after reading the "how lo-fi can you go..." thread i remembered that i wanted to ask a question for quite some time now.

could anybody recommend me some artists and albums by lo-fi, ambient, noise artists? i know a few people on this forum like these genres but i know very little about them, although a lot of the music i create is just lo-fi and rhythm-less. i guess i was just put off the whole ambient "scene" when i was a kid because of all the bland chill-out compilation ads.

my only point of reference is that selected ambient works volume II is one of my favourite albums of all time.

for the "ambient" (better to say "new ambient"):
b12 (first albums), boards of canada (but you know them i think), muziq (1995/99), luke vibert (as wagon christ in this case), autechre (all the ninties), pan sonic (all), black dog (bytes), the orb (U.F.Orb and also, adventures of the ultraworld), sabres of paradise (haunted dancehall, more trip hop indeed, but very nice),
for the old school check:brian eno (music for films, and also music for airport), tangerine dream (zeit, alpha centaury), manuel gottsching (e2-e4), popul vu (osianna mantra), terry ryley (in c, poppy no good , A Rainbow in Curved Air, Persian Surgery Dervishes = the father of minimalism) etc

what do you mean for "lofi" and "noise"? some examples? they're too vast as adjective or terms...
