I like those $1 dvds and $5 dvd boxes with like 20 movies on 5 discs. I have one of those portable dvd players with the small sceen attached. It's jusr as much a piece of gear as my drum machine. The audio section of archive.org is full of old cylider recordings and even more obscure shit. Also never over look found sounds, if you can hear it you can sample it.

yup. those dvd sci-fi packs at best buy... 50 movies for like 12.99. they always have great samples and it's fun to go through em.

i saw one of those recently that was called cult classics, and it was all movies from the 30's and 40's of movies that were all drug and sex themed movies and every one seemed to involve people getting into a bad habit and which would wreak havoc on their lives, it had reefer madness on it along with like 20 others, for 5 bucks, wish i had snatched it, but i was skeptical and didn't have the dough anyway, i'll go back though eventually

reefer madness is a weird ass film, i remember it having a pretty 60 soundtrack. i swear the 60's had the best soundtrack music. nexflix has a bunch of them movies on there too. weird crappy 60's movies, most with porn and those old school womens bikinis with the full shirt and shorts.
makes you glad to live in the generation of thongs and 2 pieces.

i sample from vynil, .mp3, youtube, vhs, dvd, cds ecc... no mental masturbation for me... the only thing i can say is that i prefer sample my drums for vynil to obtain this classic hip hop rough feel, but it's not a principle for me.

Good call, I will sample from anything, but the drum have to be of a certain quality of recording to really bang. I will sample tv, the internet, whatever, but from have to be from a quality source.

a technique i find fun is to play a song/sounds/whatever all the way through and just record random bits to the pads throughout the song and then see what i can make with it.

I use this method sometimes as well, and it can have great results.

I just sample from my wax. I enjoy the challenge of not being able to use something until you come across it.

I have a few .wavs of TR-808 drums, and that's it for digital.
