I pull from mostly dollar bin vinyl and i either speed it up or down on a turntable. Occasionally I will buy a 20-30 dollar record but if it is that noteworthy someone has probably sampled it before, so I shy away from that stuff. Sometimes I pull from youtube for advertisement jingles. I know someone on here pulls from vhs thrift store tapes. Hope this helps.

totally, that shit is so great, i got a good amount of breaks and random drum hits and fills on vinyl that i'll hit up too, but damn, so many classic breaks at your finger tips, just cycle through em, and then i use Max/MSP to pitch shit naturally which is great, using 1 as a reference for normal speed i can speed or slow anything to at least the millionth decimal spot, precision yo!!!

haha but i'll slow somethin down lower than i need, bounce it to the sp and make it sound fat, then record it back to my comp, speed it up to about where i need it and then back into the sp and time stretch from there, its making my work flow so much iller instead of getting hung up trying to remember what breaks and hits are on what tracks on what records, although if i catch a good drum sample on a record i'm listenin to i always try and put it on a pad for later.......

Don't have that many records to sample, I've been sampling tons of CDs, though, and even some mp3's and wavs.

I usually sample vinyl and cassettes, though.

man im sampling amazon.com, moviegrooves.com(whenever their site gets back up) and anything else i can find besides vinyl. my record player is shit and buzzing like hell so i gotta get sounds somewhere, ive even sampled netflix movies and dvd str8 from the rca line. wherever you can get a funky grovve, grab it, screw them folks who are all like, vinyl only. vinyl is great if you feel like putting your sampling on hold to you get a new stash.

yeah man sample anything you want - no rules
most overly industry heads will tell you sampling is dead because then you cant sell that beat(in my experiance at the record store) so in that sense fuck em and grab whatever you want, chances are you're gonna mangle it to your liking anyway and only a trained ear will hear its 'from something'
i used to have this page bookmarked about how to record a sample into the computer first, make it real clean and loud, then put it on your machine if you google it up its one of the first few, its a big page about making samples and production

i think your taling about tweakheads.com, they have some stuff about sampling and normalizing your samples and all that jazz. reason is good, you can chop, normalize, eq, add decay (which is pretty weird) then export all your chops and just load em onto your card. this is what ive learned to do because im so visual and quick with a computer.

I sample from my dvd player quite a bit. At flea markets I find alot of unkown movies from 60's, 70's, 80's and so on. usually no more than $2 per movie. most of them have good music, weird sounds, voices and other sample prospects.

Get an interface that lets you input RCA and 1/4" cables. Then anything that has an audio output (headphone jack, RCA to TV, etc) can be sampled.

Get an interface that also has XLR inputs, learn about mic techniques and then everything can be sampled. Everything.

Hell, you could use a mic to sample yourself playing guitar! That's what cats back in the day were doing. =^)
