yea ive been lookin into that. looks ill. you have one right? i know you can auto chop transients with jj os...but can you still chop in bars and half bars or zones or whatever you want to call it?

yo dp,

i used to have an mpc 1000 with the jj os. as far as the chop functions with the jj os, you can designate how many chops you'd like out of your sample. 2 to 64 if i remember correctly. another dope option the mpcs have is the direct record. you can play your sequence and record vocals, cuts or anythign else in real time with the sequence.

unfortunately i hated naming samples and dealing with the sub menus, thats why i went to the "darkside" with a 303.

yea its exactly why i want it...recording while a sequence is going. im just gonna use it for arranging etc...im not looking forward to the submenus and naming files and this sorta bullshit. but the 404 is my main dude..it gets used in everything i do so im very excited to see how this combo will go.

:D :D :D

anyway i hope you take the black one, the pads are more resistent there.

i still have difficulties with this machine, i admitt...his workflow is still "mysterious" to me; i bought it 5 months ago and not making many beats with, 'cause everytime i got lost in the menus and sometimes i lost samples while editing...
now i picked up an esx1 and i work this with the sp505 = nice couple...but i'm consodering to use the mpc1000 with them in order to have an hyper powerful sequencer (16 patterns at once vs 4 patterns by the sp505) and a better straight sound...

once you can use the 1k, the work flow is so fast, i've been using it for 2yrs now and still love it. even though it is currently under a dust cover. the menu navigation is quick and easy, but is just a case of knowing where all the buttons are ect.

aslong as you got JJ then you shouldn't have any probs with missings samples etc. and make sure you got th eblack one cus the old pads are painfull on the fingers, my mates go the old pads and i can't stand them.

is a supersuper dope machine though. im jus all 404 at the moment.

thanks for the feedback. yea i got the black one...apparently even some of the black ones have pad problems..but mine will be brand new so hopefully that aint a problem. but i was watching alot of those videos on youtube...shit will be a learning curve but im not too worried about it with the menus and ish. its gonna be alot of fun to learn and it will be a whole new work flow. who knows maybe itll make my shit suck even worse hahaha.

Congratulations.... I love my 1000... I agree with Kel, get the JJOS for sure! I used the Akai OS for years until I finally got around to installing JJOS.... I was straight up SLEEPING on it... Even the free JJOS is smoother than the Akai one... On the free version saving and loading your projects is a lot easier, and chopping samples is much much better as well. The "autochop" is only in the pay version, but for the free version JJ maximized the screen space for the wav form view, and made the up and down arrows your zoom in option, rather than having to go through a menu path to zoom in when chopping...

Also, if you upgrade the RAM don't get the Akai RAM... The "official" AKAI 128MB RAM upgrade is like $140 or something crazy... It's just standard laptop RAM that you can find on eBay for mad cheap... I got mine for $9 on eBay, with free shipping, using the "buy it now" option and it works great... Saved $130... haha. Just make sure to look for this exact type of RAM: 256MB SODIMM PC133 SDRAM 256 MB PC 133 LAPTOP 144-Pin
(the MPC only reads half of the RAM stick, so if you get a 256 MB stick it will read the 128 MB, but if you get a 128MB stick it will only read it as 64MB). If you got questions post 'em up..

The MPC pairs very nicely with the SP samplers.

I agree with HD and the SP ghost thang... You always will use your 404 for sample manipulation!
Make sure to grab at least one 64MB CF Card!!! These are gold if you own a 404!!! (Check the "I wonder" thread in the Other Gear section if you don't know what I'm talking about)

Don't give up on it too quick, it's a powerful machine (with an sp)!
I own my 3rd 1k by now... ridiculous i know... but still a good investment. I never really lost money by reselling them. I would recommend to look for an used mpc you could try before buy. ALL of them ebay 1k's are crap!
People always lie for money, try to find someone selling one in your city...
You easily could save up to 25%-30%. Think about the JJOS(3x), the ram, and possibly a hard disk... 404+1k=

my 2 eurocents

I'm also running the free JJOS3.06 and always wondered if it's worth it to upgrade?! :?
