When I have a drum pattern playing and sampling at the same time, do I have a limit to the amount of pads of samples I can play together? For instance, for this one track im holding down 4 pads with one hand, and playing individual pads with the other...and what happens is pads stop glowing(stop playing), as if there is a limit to how many I can use at once. This only happens when a pattern is playing underneath...

There is a limit to how many samples you can play at once... The 404 has a polyphony of 12 "voices", this means only 12 sounds can be played at once. Stereo samples count as 2 voices...

There are ways around that, though... You say you're holding down 4 pads at once? You could resample all of those samples to one pad, thus freeing up some space in your polyphony...

I remember always recordin my samples in STEREO, and in the end recording in MONO...that was stupid.
Also, remember to record in MONO when you resample, too ;)

i've noticed that the sequencer is more accurate when it's handling mono samples.

Really??? how does that work then, surely it is jus a midi msg sent to trigger the pad. i don't see how mono or stereo would make any difference?
will have a look later and see what you mean.

i guess what i mean is, a stereo sample triggered on one pad is the same as triggering two mono pads simultaneously, and it slows down your sequence or makes it stutter at the start if there are alot at the same time.

I think it has got more to do with different starting points when merging stereo down to mono, than a sequencer slowdown issue. The 404 was designed to be able to handle up to four stereo samples simultaneously, so I doubt a single stereo sample would cause it to slow down.

Obviously four stereo samples simultaneously would then make the SP404 unworkable.
