i remember a post that hurling made about the 7 or 8 things to know about sp sampling or something like that.
one of his tips was about resampling to mono.
i was wondering thats the general consensus about mono samples. you can totally hear the big difference between sampling in mono and stereo. what would be the benefits of mono besides compact flash space and the c.canceler working better on mono bass samples because that is a pretty nice effect.

Re: recording to mono?
Sometimes things just sound better in mono. For instance, if I find a sample of a drum kit that's in stereo and I record it to mono, sometimes it makes the drums a lot punchier. Not that all drum loops should be in mono, just works better with some mixes.
Re: recording to mono?
i like to keep bass mono, to tighten it up. it might just be a psychological thing though

Resampling in MONO is helpful so that you can use more samples in a pattern(polyphony).

oh i didnt know mon had anything to do with the poly. oh yeah, now i remember 12 poly if its in mono and 6 in stereo right? makes sense.
Re: recording to mono?
As a rule of thumb. Low punchers (kicks & bass) go mono, as they'll retain the desired energy in the final mix, and won't interfere as much with sounds that "should" be stereo like keys, a cool sample, background vocals, etc...

Yeah, mono basslines is a very good idea. It's why many of the pure bassline hardware synths out there are monophonic. You often don't need them to be polyphonic or stereo for that matter.
I have to say though, I don't always go mono, as sometimes it can be used as a sample-filter kind of thing, obscuring less interesting parts of a sample it overlaps with. That's also the only exception though, but I usually build my beats/songs in stereo, then afterwards dive in and change samples to mono or do the panning. I'm spoiled though, as this is child's play with the MV.

Right on man! If you ever got the chance to buy one, grab it and don't let go. It's worth it.
I've seen MV8800s go for insane prices at the moment. Apparently there are some pretty desperate sellers out there, selling it for as little as only one grand (yeah, in euros here, but still, it's nuts for a machine this good!).
