can anyone tell me what the sound quality is like... i know they improved it... which isn't something i was hoping for... just picked up a 303, hands down the best sampler i've ever owned... completely blown away by how dope this little box is...
that said, i'm looking to add a 404 to the mix... i like the warmth of the 303 and 404... is the 404 sx still delivering a lo-fi warmth of any sort?

thanks.

it wont sound like the 303, but there is a lofi sampling mode that dirties it up,
and the 404 does actually have quite a nice sound compared to other similar priced samplers that ive tried... dunno about the SX version..

I have no idea, but the demo on Roland's site sounds really bad, as in the samples were badly recorded or all used the distortion effect, or maybe just the demo was badly recorded. I think it probably sounds better, I wouldn't trust the demo, and I would even risk buying it in a couple of months (unless of course, all these messages pop up on here or another forum saying it sounds like crap).

Well there's a thing called compression in streaming media and it tends to make things loud and crappy, oh but wait everyone here likes that.

Thank you for first reading my post and being so aggressive. I do not harbour such hate for you because I do not know you. Open minded?

And back to the topic: the SP-404SX is supposed to have the best sound quality among the SPs, because it's actually using cd quality 16bit/44.1kHz.

We could talk about the converters and we could talk about the sound processing, but at least when it comes to specifications it's supposed to sound "uncompressed".

I had a SP-404 for a brief period of time, I have a SP-555 now and I think both sound good even though they use data compression.

I guess making good use of the different kinds of filters and eqs available along with the lo-fi effect instead of lo-fi sampling would get close to the so called warmth people look for and still give you the benefits of a better sound quality.

AFAIK lo-fi sampling will render an "8 bit" file, I like the way it sounds but I have to filter some of the high frequencies out to make good use of it.
