sp606 as a audio-interface...

I'm really not trying to annoy you guys with my question-spree... but what are forums for right?

Is the 606 when used with the usb connection comparable with other external sound-interfaces (near zero latency when recording and low noise) or is this really not near as good as, lets say, an lexicon omega or lambda, emu-audio interface, etc, ...

I could easily NOT buy a audio interface (I use my on board soundcard now, latency +100msec. and lots of noise on the inputs) when I buy the sp606 if it solves this problem too.

Its got great connections and converters so the sound-quality is awesome.
Its latency is slightly worse than my Edirol UA interface though.

How about the E-MU 0404 USB? I'm currently using this as an audio interface but I'm thinking about selling it cause the SP-606 can work as an interface (and I'm low on cash)

Do you recommend selling it or is the difference in quality too big?
(Remember: I must be able to plug in my ESI nEar 05 still after my E-MU is sold)

Just got the 606 today - damn I'm glad i got this one. Used to have the 404 but couldn't work without a screen and the USB connection is soooo nice...

Keep the E-MU! It has phantom power for mics (sp only accepts dynamic mics). If you really need cash and don't really use mics, the sp will work with your monitors, so you could sell the E-MU...

Well i def don't need the mic - I'm just a bit worried about the latency. Any other disadvantages I might take into consideration?

I really never have latency issues, but that is because I arrange my tracks in my DAW, so any latency is easily dealt with.

I think the E-MU has a higher sampling rate, 196khz, while the SP I think is at 44.1 khz. Nonetheless, I believe that the sp will more than suit your needs. Since you have both now, try a side by side comparison.

sorry to jump in but i have a question.

man acid is tripin'on me when i record midi in loop. it keeps erasin'the information.

it's not like in other sequencer and i have no idea how to stop that.

ps: i am still tryin to masterize acid and i can say he is powerfull.

and by the way keep the sp man u will fall in love with and make great things!!!!!!!

i think i'm going to run a SM-57 into the SP-606...is this a good combination??? does anybody have any tips when it comes to running a dynamic mic and the 606???

Dynamic Mics work very well with the SP. I have a Shure Beta 57a, and I love the two. Depending what you are recording (since you have the SM, I assume you are recording instruments?) the MFX works extremely well; EQ + Enhancer is great for Hip Hop vox, reverb and some eq is great for acoustic guitars, etc...

For vocal stutters try the 'Slicer+Flanger' and 'Tumbling' effects. Also try triggering with the D-Beam.
