I'm just upset about the fact that some producers do not invest time into individual projects and the artists they feel will shine on the beats they make. Instead, they sell their half produced projects (a beat is only half the battle) to someone else that they'll probably never hear from again. Jay-Z may or may not be paying Timberland for each beat... The point is that Jay and Timberland have a relationship and work creatively together.

im sick of people emailing me(via myspace) automated bullshit, trying to pawn there beats on to me all the fucking time, and producers who have to post like the vbulletin board is a fuckin auction house. ive said this once and ill say it again. fuck selling beats!!!!!!!!!!!!

break the shit down and look at it yourselves.

the only beatmakers and emcees selling and buying beats are 'nobodies'. NO ONE in the industry buys beats. NO ONE. the LABELS buy beats. the LABELS. and the artist has a contract that determines how they are paid, minus the expenses.

back in the day, hip hop didn't appeal to everyone. nor should it. so there wasn't an issue about money. all that mattered in that regard was how much whoever did the album was going to get paid. and in that situation they had to draw up a contract. therefore, it made more sense to have the least amount of people involved as possible, so as to allocate the money, WHICH came from the ALBUM DEAL. and the ONLY reason there was money at all was to put the album out with PROMOTION, and WIDESPREAD DISTRIBUTION. that was the only reason to pay anyone for music. these LABELS paid artists as an INVESTMENT to make money off of selling as MANY albums as possible.

to this day, it works the SAME way.

people in the industry don't make money off of albums either. the label does. emcees make their money off of shows(performances and/or appearances) and advertising contracts. so pretty much all the album work and radio airplay is just an investment made in hopes that they can get booked for shows and advertising so that they can actually get paid. and i know that most of them get advances, BUT THOSE are contingent on album sales. if the albums don't make what they were given in advance, then they have to pay the difference. why do you think all those big name fuckers started acting????? movies and tv are official money. think shit through guys.

so why the fuck would anyone sell or buy beats BEFORE/WITHOUT a DEAL???????? anyone doing THAT isn't that serious. those are the ones who most likely aren't serious. that's called a hustle. which is WHATEVER for money. if you want to make money by doing something, and you KNOW that it's not likely to happen, why the fuck do you try to do it in the first place?????

buying equipment doesn't constitute contribution. you buy equipment because YOU want to make beats. THAT'S why you buy equipment. if you buy equipment to make money, then you are responsible for the risk of not making money. if you buy a machine to press shirts and buy t shirts and print your own designs on them and nobody wants to buy your shirts, that's un-fucking-fortunate. you don't act like a fucking sissy and cry because no one wants to buy your shirts. apparently, you made a mistake when you spent all that money on the shirt machines and fabrics to make money.

and further into this shit. MOST of you corny ass 'buy my beats' face motherfuckers use stolen/cracked/free software to make beats.

i could continue without fail. but what's the point. there's no question mark there because that was rhetorical. you're tripping. period. you don't make money at ground level. you enter at the top or pretty damn close to it. which means you work without compensation for a considerable amount of time to reach that point. but therein lies another issue.

if you're truly ill, TRULY ill, you will NOT make money making music.

beatmakers: if you make money and you're ill, then there's one or more WACK emcees spitting on your shit. how could you be ill as fuck and be peace with that? but that is YOUR decision. and if that is something you can live with, you STILL have to work your way to that point. and it doesn't include selling beats to non established/ never going to be established emcees. you find someone(s) that can help spread your name, and you work with him/her/them for free until you reach potential clients of stature.

emcees: you will NEVER be ill and be rich because of it. NEVER. therefore, there is absolutely no reason for a true emcee to pay for beats.

hip hop for money is for WACK MOTHERFUCKERS. THEY are who the industry is for. a hit record is a song that you memorize before it finishes. back in the day, emcees challenged themselves. now they challenge each other to see who can come up with the simplest lyrics possible.

most people confuse the term 'commercial' with 'wack'. that is not the case. 'commercial' is the term because that is what it is. it is a commercial. everything about it is designed specifically to sell, NOT TO BE LISTENED TO. it's just a coincidence that 'commercial' shit is 'wack'.


for those of you who are ill producers AND emcees working together, do everything together. help one another get equipment you need. stick to-fucking-gether and build something man. then, if y'all want to make money, or don't care about money BUT want to get your shit out there, put money behind your shit and press it up and sell that shit yourselves. split the money how you see fit. if money is to have ANYTHING to do with GOOD music, it should MOST DEFINITELY enter the equation once the music is FINISHED.
