'sup fam? i got to report about dj gear in a couple of weeks.
So it would be greatly appreciated if you got some cool links that might help me on the historical aspects... i'm mainly interested in the evolution of mixers and turntables... some "history of deejaying" stuff might be dope as well...

i believe that this was the first mixer to have a crossfader curve. allows you to control the cut in time of a fader for scratching or mixing purposes. designed by dj shortkut of the world famous beat junkies.

pretty informative, they talk about the tb303 and how it made acid house sounds. Lots of other info.

I think djing started with radio maybe, I don't who was the first to sing along on top of records, crossfades and all that.

Obviously in the 1950s you had dances with turntables (maybe just one) and some kind of amplification and all that, I don't know if it's not older.

Well the first dj.... difficult to say.. depends how you look at it...

If it's just playing music in front of a crowd I would say it began in the 50's. But what makes a DJ? Playback records ...? well no.... the official art of mixing began in the 70's... with the invention of the mixer and to me that's where it started actually. Many sources say that Francis Grasso was the first was beat mixing / matching mf. (Radio dj's are a whole different thing.)

I think you can't point on one person and say that guy was the first dj.... maybe he was only the first one that got documented, because he already was playing at a higher plateau.

I would agree that Herc def was one of the pioneers at least to our culture, either he was 'mixing' or not... my philosophy is still like the selection is more important than the mix...
