i've heard rumors for the past year about this.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a marketing trick, but i can't imagine sales are that good anymore, as there are so many kicking around second hand.

also, i spoke to the guy who used to head Technics in the UK (i work at a hi fi shop and he now represents another brand). he reckons they've been trying to discontinue them since he worked there, but public demand was too high.

But the 1200 range is pretty much all technics makes as a brand, if they didn't exist, their parent companies could just forget about them.

I think that if they discontinue the decks, they should at least make all the parts and production techniques available so someone else can step in.

I hope they don't stop making those turntables, there is nothing else like them.

I've been using Stanton ST-150's and they are every bit just as solid as SL-1200's. They're 6 years old and have been through some heavy use and they're still kicking strong.

Besides Stanton ST-150's and STR8-150's their are other SL-1200 eqivalent tables. They're usually referred to as super OEMs because they use a lot of the same electronic and mechanical piece parts.

Technics is a division of Panasonic and I can't really see how they justify keeping technics around.
