Travel case?

Post by Up Left Right »

Hello. I recently got a 404SX and was wondering what everyone uses to protect their SPs while traveling. The Roland CB-SP1 is the only thing I've found that is custom fit for the 404, but it's a bit pricey so I was wondering about some alternatives.

And since this is my first post I will also add that the 404 has changed my life. It is the most inspiring piece of equipment that I've purchased in a long time. I have recently ditched the guitar for a microkorg xl/alesis sr-16/laptop->mixer (w/ analog delay & loop pedal in FX send)->404sx setup and I am having more fun making music than ever thanks to the SP. I have been checking out this forum since September when I started looking into the 404 and have found myself coming back quite a bit. The community here has good vibes and great music from what I've observed, and the reason I love music so much is because of how supportive everyone is of one another, so I'm glad I came across this place and the 404SX, for as I said, it has changed my life.

welcome to the forum.

use the 'search' function - we've addressed the various carrying cases for the 404 a few times.

Thanks.... I was searching for stuff like '404 case' and wasn't getting anything. Searching 'travel case' yielded actual results (I noticed your own post with the same subject from two years ago, fauna).

yup - you sometimes have to try a bunch of dif word combos, but i thot i'd point it out cuz there's some good info in there (including the gun-case idea).

this is the one i have suggested a few times... oakland and hema are right though.. handgun cases will work too but from what ive found the only cheap ones are either too big or too small and the perfect ones are dope steel ones but cost way too much...

Maybe depends on whether you want comfort or security.

For security, I've found ali tool/flight cases cheap. Sometimes they're sold as CD cases. They usually come with rubber padding inside and with a shoulder strap you can clip on - they're usually lockable too, although it wouldn't take much to force them open. I use a big indelible marker pen to write my postal/zip code and surname on - because the case metal is textured chequer pattern or dimpled, it would be hard for anyone to scrub this off without a strong solvent.

I've found ones that vary in size from just big enough for a 404 and power supply to plenty big enough to add headphones and a bunch of useful cables.

yeah if i am just going in the car or like taking over to a friends pad - wrap it in a dry towel, put it in your backpack and call it a day,,, for a really long car trip that might be cold or bumpy tho i pack all my stuff into turntable flight cases and i put my mixer in a small suitcase with a pillow.
