Two 505's???

Post by skepsis »

Hey guys,

I just bought a 505 off ebay for 200 bucks. I also bid on one other when I was out to get the one I won. If I get this one I will sell it to a friend who is interested but before I do, is there any advantages to having two 505's in the same studio? The only one I can think of is Midi sync the two for double the polyphony, but Id like to hear your guys take on things... Is there any advantage to owning two 505's?

Thanks,

Skepsis

Are you talking about resampling whole patterns?

with 2 sp505 you have , potentially, 4+4 tracks+2fx at once+"resampling" patterns...
a primitive version of an mv 8000...

I don't know how the 505 works but on the 303/404 you can't record something while another pad is playing. With two samplers you can do this. This is definitely a plus if you want to add synth or any ext. instruments on the fly. I mean sure you could just bounce tracks from your sampler to the computer or any other recording device to do this but that shit is way too time consuming for me.

Just had a thought, Can't whole pattern resampling be done with a multitracker instead of a second sampler?

I was using a 505 for a while, but kept running out of polyphony on beats. Having two synced together is like a whole new instrument. 8 tracks running through four outputs, having beats synced at different tempos, polyrhythms, phasing...

Oh snap. I haven't even scored the 1st one I have on layaway, and now next year, I will want a 2nd. I can get to know the 1st, and intergrate a 2nd one a bit later.
