great forum here peeps, but this is one i cant solve....im trying to import my sounds ( which came from a great library ). They all say they are wavs, YET some will import and some wont. im using a macbook pro. tried a converter calld 'switch' but it wouldnt work bc it says im trying to change something into the format its already in......confused? me too! then i tried importing them inot pro tools to convert them - they were id'd as BWF (.WAV) - plus its a stereo file. bit and sample rates are 16 and 44.1.
pissing me off bc these sounds are so good.

if you dont figure it out , try sampling the sounds the old school way, if they are worth having then they are worth sampling them in the hard way

true that...nothing beats The Chop. but im gettin started here and i grabbed a bunch of non-trad sounds - some arabic percussion and such, wanted to start in beat making quick...anyway, deep in the vaults here i found a very helpful reference to my problem which then got solved - someone suggested using audacity as the third party "middle man", where it will convert files that look like wavs, but are for some reason or another unsupportable by the 404. this was time consuming but absolutely worth it. now, onto the real work.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic discussion, but I am glad I dug around for a bit before I started making random threads on my issue.
This is the problem I am having. Just had some 'dj drops' made and I am trying to import them to the SP-404. I had the person who made them for me send them in wave format.
I have tried re-encoding the original file from .wav format to .wav in Audacity, but the SP-404 still will NOT recognize the file and gives me the UnS (un-supported) code.
If the files are too big, will that prevent the 404 from importing the files?
I have a 512mb card. Going to attempt a smaller denomination card to see if that works.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It has most likely to do with bitrate and bit depth. Wav files need to be 44.1kHz 16bit WAV, so you might need to batch convert everything for everyone to work right of the bat.

What library are you using? Some software DAWs tend to add DAW specific information that makes importing WAV files impossible or difficult.

Thanks for the response!
Here's the thing. The specific samples I am trying to import, both were sent to me in wav and mp3 format). I was sent the mp3, I tried converting them to wav files, but that didn't work out too well. Then I asked the person to send the samples again but in wav format. I thought that might have done the trick, but again, nope.
When you say library, what do you mean? Software?
I will try to batch convert using what I have to test.

I tried converting the mp3 files to wav using 44.1kHz 16bit, with nero.
No workie.

I just realized something.
Audacity recognizes the file as 44100kHZ and 32bit.
Going to try to import the file I just converted to see if that fixed it.

It worked!!!

I took one of the samples, converted it to wav, changed it from 32bit to 16bit!
Imported that sucker and assigned to a pad, works!

a little OT, but I found out that acid .wavs that were converted using Acid Blotter will not import
