Re: can't create patterns in my new 404sx
are the samples one shots... like drum hits? or are they longish samples? if your sample is longish then it wont fit right if the samples bpm and the patterns bpm are different... youll get that "ran out of room" thing going on in the pattern... i donno if thats your issue or not... also if its a lot of samples youre mashing together and they were all set to stereo samples then that could be why youre over recording rather than dubbing...
the part "I set the pat length for 4, it keeps recording for 2x 4," are you saying you set the length for 4 and its only playing a two bar patten 1-1 1-2 1-3 1-4 2-1 2-2 2-3 2-4 then starting over? im not sure EXACTLY what youre asking.. i had the 404 and have the sx now and the pattern sequencer is the same and works the same aside from the swing function when you quantize... maybe read over the sequencer part of the manual again..
take a deep breath the 404 is simple yet very complex
edit: you should also join the community.. i know this was your first post but we get a ton of people signing up and their first post is a post a lot like this one... "I JUST GOT A 404 HELP ME LEARN IT RIGHT NOW I AM SO LOST"... a few times ive never heard from people again.. same thing in the selling forum too ive noticed.. sign up to sell something on our forum? its give and take around here.. you def get back what you put in...

what i meant by joining was sacred rituals passed down since the sp1200 days...
really i just mean not to just stop by and abuse the ease of the internet by asking for help right off the bat and not staying for a while/contributing... this isnt really a help desk.. its a community, a forum, a discussion board...
the stereo sample are making the polyphony run out probably... its in the manual how many stereo vs mono samples you can have playing at a given time... check on that and see if thats your issue... resample a hand full of sounds at a time rather than all of them at once..

Thanks timfromt, that is a help. Not quite sure what you mean by "resampling just a handful "-you mean when I make the pattern I am resampling -? anyway i will be checkin' this sight out a bunch. Peace, a

Re: can't create patterns in my new 404sx
you can play them outside the sequencer and resample some sounds on separate pads back down to one pad freeing up polyphony for later when you put them back into the sequencer... that or just resample your sounds separately and resample them as mono.. that will give you double? the space compared to stereo sounds. i never use stereo sounds, not because of any one reason or another but just for the way i work and the stuff i make its not necessary to be stereo..

Re: can't create patterns in my new 404sx
Any sample you use in a pattern should NOT be set on loop. If set to loop, the pattern sequencer will toggle it either on or off every repeat instead of always playing it on each repeat.
