i swear ableton and sp's go together like bread and buttaaahh

live intro is worth checkin out they have a feature comparison up on their website
http://www.ableton.com/pages/live_8/com ... live_intro

but if you want auto chop and more stuff, the full version should be on the table, if not you can always upgrade from the intro version for a discount of 120 bucks or something

http://www.ableton.com/pricing

also the Boxed version of intro, which is 40 dollars more than the internet download,comes with filled with 8 gb of samples as opposed to 1 gb...something to consider

i know almost everything there is to know about ableton so if you have a specific question let me know :D

i got a question, with ableton can you sort of use its effects to resample. like ive been trying to do this in fruityloops and cubase but it doesnt work cause of the signals doubling through the usb connection. i know before you said just turn the monitor off but fruity doesnt have a monitor button. like id like to run the sound through a program and bring it right back to the sp with effects on it and none of that usb delay. im not really feeling the sp's effects, seems to make everything lo-fi sounding and crunchy, not too clean like alot of vst ive used in the past.

thanks man! glad to know my music has inspired someone and congrats on the show!

with working with hardware and software its all about balance...you gotta give both love if you dont want to sound too much like a computer.

ableton's warping will flip your shit....record that resampled session live then fix any problems that were too crazy off time or pitch up double time or down to half time etc

@springwater
really? the effects on the sp's are better than most vsts i have found. i dunno why you think that.
but it is easier to work with the 555 in ableton than in fruity because the inventor of ableton was a huge hardware head so he had audio manipulation in mind from the start.
yea you can just turn off the monitor button, then record in without feedback. but you cant overdub unless you have another soundcard or are just playing guitar or mic input through the input/line in.

@nothingness
yea thats what i do, just record loops and sequences from the sp and arrange and edit them. my last few songs are 90 percent edited sp/kp recordings.
no problem just ask me anything

I only use Cool edit 2.1 so i'm not so familiar with software and stuff
but how do you connect your sp with ableton just through RCA or midi aswell?

usb or firewire audio interface

or if you have a really good soundcard already in the computer, the mic jack on the computer itself

i have rca->1/4 inch going to my interface
and also midi out from the sp into the interface

some interfaces have rca input, a lot don't though...you need to either buy an adaptor or a cable that has two different ends like my rca>1/4inch

@hurling

the sp effects are ok but sound muffled to me when i resample. like the more sp tapes i hear the more i can hear the sp signature sound which all sounds pretty lo-fi to me, which isn't a bad thing, just something id like to avoid. the sp itself processes the sound a little, or at least this is what i think cause sp beats sound like sp beats and mpc beats sound like mpc beats, i feel like theres a big difference even though samples are usually from a similar source, vinyl and cd's.
