Help with backing up SP 555 data!!!

Post by smashatoms »

Hi, I recently lost an entire memory card filled with loops and parts etc that make up my songs. Because of this I have now lost many of my songs. I bought two 2GB compact flash cards to back up my data onto. Basically what I hope to do is plug in a card with some of my music on it, then copy that data onto another card so I have extra cards with different sets of my songs on them. Is there a simple way to do this using the 555, my memory cards, a card reader and my computer?

thanks

if you export from the 555 the files are backed up in alpha-numeric order, which is the same way they are imported

so just export them to the card, plug in the card reader and copy them to a folder on your computer

then when you want them back, you can just plug in the card again and copy the files back on the card and import them into the 555

they wont be in the same exact spots unless you had the full 16 pads taken up on each bank but they WILL be in the same order.

i have many projects backed up this way when i cant finish them and it makes a great sample library to mess with.

Thanks a lot for the reply. That all seems simple enough yet I am a bit helpless when it comes to some computer stuff. Could you tell me what I have to do to export them off the card. I have a memory card totally full up and I plugged it into my card reader and copied everything off of it onto a folder on my desktop. Then I plugged in the other card and copied the same data onto it. When I plugged it into the 555 it asked me to format so I'm assuming this isnt the way to do it. Can you give me a simple explanation of what I have to do? I read the manual but the backing up stuff didn't seem to work.

thanks

use the exporting importing functions, not the back up thing

read those in the manual

its simple for me, it shows up as a drive in my computer, then i make a folder

to import them back in i just drag them back in then i press the command for import (look at your manual).

you are adding a step or making things more complicated then they are i think.
