newbie BPM issue

Hi all, just got me an SP-404. LOVE IT!!
Done a couple of gigs on it already, not using the sequencer, just triggering loops from pads.
One issue I've not been able to solve yet.
Some of my samples are quite long.
The effects' BPM on some is like 2/3 what it should be.
Apart from doubling or halving the BPM is there any way to correct the BPM?

i'm new to the world of the 404, too, but i'm pretty sure your only option is to re-record the samples while making sure you set up the bpm for each one ahead of time.

i might be wrong... would be pretty cool if i am.

adjust your start/end points. If you edit your sample just right, the right BPM will come up. Also, you can enter the tempo of the sample b4 u record it and it will set the start/end point accordingly.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm not sampling on the 404. I'm importing complete tracks and using the 404 like a DJ.
So I definitely can't set my own delay BPM? I'm stuck with whatever the machine tells me is the tempo of the sample?
That's a little constricting, might put the ability to define your own tempo in the wishlist for xmas.

Yep, the 404 calculates the BPM from the run time of the sample. The 2 choices you see are only the 2 BPM's it could be if it were a 1 or 2 bar loop - the 404 can't tell that from the length of the sample. One day, Roland might make one of these things with the Vari-phrase chip in it, then you could have both "fit to pitch" and/or "fit to tempo". Until then, you have to get the sample right for job first

Exsqueeze my need for clarification.
So the BPM of the effect is intertwined with the length of the sample so there's no way to detach it right?
All I really want is to be able to trigger a sample and then define the BPM of the FX (delay etc.) manually- independent of the sample's length.
Not possible?!?

it is possible if those samples are playing in a sequence. if the samples are sequenced the Delay gets it's BPM info from the 404's BPM, not from the individual sample lengths

my tip is: record a sample, make a pattern with that sample, delete the sample.. now every time ou want to spesify the bpm just play the pattern, which now will contain no sounds, and select the tempo you want on the pattern, this is really easy..

Cool,
Yeah, I just figured that work around, came back to tell you guys and you'd beat me to it.
Switching to pattern mode after triggering sample, tapping in tempo and mashing up, then out of pattern mode to trigger next track.
Not ideal but workable.
