I watched Stalker and was mildly impressed overall and extremely impressed here and there, although it could have used some more "something" towards the last 45 minutes. maybe I just need to learn russian...

then I saw his movie Andrei Rublev and was blown completely away...

that movie is a god damn masterpiece in everyway...the cinematography, the music, the acting, the locations, the plot(s), the way it constantly keeps your attention even though its a longer movie...

just wondering who else has seen his films(ellaguru, I dont doubt you have seen his movies! :D ) and if you are into more artsy side of films to let you in on this genius director.

I've seen a little of Stalker and I used to own Solyaris (Steven Soderbergh remade it with George Clooney but I'm not interested in watching it). Solyaris is super amazing, and I've always wanted to watch all of Tarkovsky's movies - he only has like 7. They are all so long though and it's hard to find the time when there are so many shorter movies I want to see. Such a lame excuse though..

He's my favorite director. My friends and I have done marathons of his filmography on a theatre-sized screen in the backyard. Takes a few days but so worth it.

I cant wait to watch all of his movies, i think ill be watching Solarys sometime this weekend

There was also a pc game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R that used Chernobyl instead and made it into more of a horror/sci fi thing...it was a very atmospheric game and after seeing the movie it cleared up a lot of things. Its worth playing, you have to throw the 'nuts' like in the movie to clear for traps, which interpreted in the game are radiation anomalies that sometimes suck anything in (including wildlife which roams throughout the game) and implodes and explodes again....if you have a decent PC you should definitely play that game. I wish I still had a good pc.

I want to watch Stalker over again, now that I have Andrei's distinct style in my mind. I loved the scene in stalker when they were riding on the train tracks into the zone, and the sound of the "per clunk, per clunk" turns into a soundscape...

another instance of this is at the beginning of Andrei Rublov when the fool finishes dancing and the camera pans to show how exhausted everyone is while theres a ghastly woman singing softly in the background score....

pure photography coming to life. I could watch that whole movie again right now and it would only be better.

was it black and white? theres a remake with george clooney which is totally different, though i haven't seen both to make a good comparison.
